What’s Your Name?
We watched online church this past Sunday and something Pastor Jerry said perked my ears right up…
His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. Revelation 19.12
This scripture is referencing the Lord Jesus Christ as He rides the white horse into the battle of Armageddon. Doesn’t it make you so curious what that name, that only He knows, is? It surely does me. It makes me want to guess.
Conqueror. Victor. Winner. Champion. What are your guesses?
In the Old Testament book of Judges, the story of Samson – the Angel of the Lord approached, first, Mrs. Manoah and then later Mr. Manoah. Here is a short excerpt:
And the Angel of the Lord said to him (Manoah), “Why do you ask My name, seeing it is wonderful?” Judges 13.18
I believe the Angel of the Lord was referring to the news He just gave him – BUT – when you see Angel of the Lord capitalized in scripture it refers to Jesus Christ Himself in the heavenly realm. Remember, the Son of Man does not arrive earth until many years later.
What if He is referring to Himself as…
For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9.6
Why Ask My Name?
Remember the story of when Jacob wrestled with God?
Then Jacob asked, saying, “Tell me Your name, I pray.” And He said, “Why is it that you ask about My name?” And He blessed him (Jacob) there. Genesis 32.29
Again, “My” is capitalized – who was Jacob wrestling with? The pre-advent Angel of the Lord, Jesus Himself.
A New Name
“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give some of the hidden manna to eat. And I will give him a white stone, and on the stone a new name written which no one knows except him who receives it.” ’ Revelation 2.17
I believe we, the believers and followers of Jesus Christ will be given a brand new name!
You shall be called…
The Gentiles shall see your righteousness, and all kings your glory. You shall be called by a new name, which the mouth of the Lord will name. Isaiah 62.2
Several years ago I got real bold in prayer and asked Holy Spirit to tell me my “new name.” There was a pause, then an impression.
Shoshanna. In Hebrew it means “lily.” Susan also means “lily flower.”
