August was a busy month and I definitely learned a thing or two. I am going to use words and pictures to share the highlights!
- I like Facebook for many reasons and one of them is its ability to make me laugh! Oh my goodness there are some funny things on there. Late July/early August there was a “thing” going around in support of marriage. One was to post seven photos of you and your spouse and then “tag” someone to do the same. I kept seeing all these great posts and pictures and thought, “Is anyone ever going to tag me?” LOL! In the purest of fun mode, I decided to post my own photo of me and hubs! Lesson learned? Don’t wait to be invited – crash the party!!!
- Being an acronym nerd I wrote one down in my journal. I do not do selfie’s and I jokingly call my friends who do, narcissists! Selfie’s are for the young. Ready? SELFY = Smile | Enjoy | Life | Forever | Young
We Biked It & Liked It! The Virginia Creeper Trail, from Whitetop VA down to Damascus VA. A 17-mile trek with this crew! Definitely one of the best memories of Summer 2016. Lesson learned? I can still do it. A little plug for one of my favorite ministries too, SOLE HOPE, and, by the way, all four of us have participated in a shoe party!!!
- Our two grands, Hannah (almost-20) and Simon (13 plus) drove up on a Saturday to give my daughter a kid-break and what a fun time we had. Dinner on the porch. Great Day of Praise at the Lake with our church. And, a few days home without Gpa, which included soft taco buffet and we all pitched in! Lesson learned? I can still make these two laugh!!! And, yes, that is Sriracha sauce in the photo – they like spicy food.
- I learned the secret to using regular coffee in a replaceable k-cup. Grind the coffee to a fine ground before putting in the k-cup. You will use LESS coffee and it will taste better.
- I like new purses with lots of compartments. My daughter’s neighbor and friend, Shirley, is pocketbook-obsessed! Probably not good for her wallet but it’s great for her friends when she cleans out her closet. I was blessed with a purple (yes, purple) Michael Kors handbag with compartments – lots of them. LOVE IT! Thank you, Shirley!
- I have made peace with my unsuccessful search for the perfect pillow. I tried one more – “MY PILLOW” – code yellow. I bought it because my friend who also has pillow issues bought this one and it has saved his life and his neck. 35-minutes into it? I threw it in the chair. Boxed it up the next day and shipped it back. MY PILLOW wasn’t my pillow. I will just stick with my 6.99 stomach-sleeper, standard pillow from IKEA.
- Our youngest had his birthday on August 20th. In people years, he is a couple years behind me – but he sleeps more than I do and his hair is curlier and this pup couldn’t be more loved! And, do you love that pencil sketch of Sam? My good friend does these and, yes, she is for hire!! Yay! Alice!
- Hannah girl went back to Liberty University late August – sophomore year – full class load – full of excitement and ambition and motivation. You Go Girl!
- I had the privilege of being substitute teacher to this AWESOME boy! He is our brainiac – homeschooled since first grade and likes to take a break between classes. I wanted to add Home Ec to his daily regimen the day I made pesto but he wasn’t too thrilled – so instead he did the math to double the recipe – in his head in 4 seconds flat. What a guy!
- August 2016 was a good month. From bikes to beans. Pico to Pesto. Moons to Meditate. Hannah to Simon. Full moon. Full life. We are blessed!
- My one-word 2016 DISCIPLINE: Read-Pray-Move is still going strong and faithful. God is good!
Whew! What a month!

Kathy, praying for you sister.
Fun! So happy you blog.
Thank you, blood and birth sister…appreciate you saying that. I think you should too.
Love your story of August and sharing your life! The bike ride story has now nudged me a second time to try it if the weather in Ohio can stop running too close to 90. I loved to bike, but it has been awhile since I have taken the bike out of the garage! Have a great day, my friend, and hope your September is rich with blessings and memories!
Pam, just try it…cooler weather is right around the corner!
Thank you for sharing the pictures. This was a different way to share what was learned than I’ve ever seen, and I loved it. Joining you from Testimony Tuesday and Coffee for Your Heart
THANKS, Debbie! It’s the only way I know to share! LOL!
Susan, I laughed out loud when I saw you make mention of pillows! My husband & I have been “discussing” pillows for weeks now. OK, maybe he complaining and reminding me to PLEASE go buy new ones and me, complaining in my head and needing to just GO and do it. At least I now know which to not bother with 🙂 I truly am glad we were neighbors this morning!
Pillows are SO personal…and my issues are on-going. The MY PILLOW is good, just not for me.
What a great month you had!
It was a FULL month – extremely intentional!!!
Love your stories as always!!
You are so welcome for the purse enjoy
Thank you for being there for me last week great advice and prays! Love you lady
Love my purple purse! And, it matches my purple Bible cover! I hope I wasn’t harsh and hard – but dang it, sometimes LOVE HAS TO BE. You know what I’m talking about!!!
Loved reading about your August. You’ve inspired me to do a similar collage of my family’s monthly highlights! Have a great day Susan!
I know! PicMonkey.com EZ-PZ to use and most of it is FREE!!!
You are just the cutest. And I always love your monthly summary posts.
It’s so self-encouraging to do these…just practicing Jude’s admonition to “encourage yourselves!!!”
What a fun summary of a blessed life! Thanks for sharing – it’s an encouragement to live life abundantly! 🙂
Karen, it IS! And, we must be intentional about choosing happiness.
I love your Pictures, You are so busy, and I’m so glad your having a blast! I need to pic monkey to get my pictures together. Thanks honey for encouraging me. I may do this for last month. Things I’ve learned in August.
It is so worth doing, HM, even if just in pictures and on FB. It helps us chronicle our days!!!
Oh my! You’ve had a full summer, it seems, and a full and lovely life with your hubby, Susan. I can’t believe you have a granddaughter that’s 20. What did you and your hubby do? Marry in grade school? ha! Thanks for encouraging us to lap up life like that cute little “youngest” of yours. And I keep forgetting that you have a “Liberty” connection. What a great school. Enjoyed watching my new daughter-in-love graduate from there last May (and my son several years before her).
Hubs, who is my 2nd husband, and not the father of my three children by birth but definitely by experience, and I have been married 34 years. I was barely 17-years old when I married the first time, had my first child at 18 1/2, then 20 1/2 and then one at 27!!! Yes, our lovely Hannah is at L.U.
I love the way you love your people. And my favorite pillows have come from Kohl’s, usually on sale. 🙂
What an awesome compliment and I receive it with much grace and gratitude. I wish we could go to Kohl’s together with that little munchkin in the cart!!!
Thanks so much – I love prizes and your site and The Message! it will be well loved.
In the mail today!

Susan, as always I enjoyed reading your post. Whew! You had a very full month! Blessings to you!
Gayl, you had quite a month too – although so much of it unpleasant. Praying HOPE JOY AND PEACE for you and yours.
Why on earth is it so hard to find a good pillow? I mean, there are a zillion types. I still have yet to find one myself. I love reading your monthly wrap up posts. Your life is filled to the brim!
Blessed!
Wow, talk about a jam-packed month! But, it seems it was a very lovely month indeed.
I have pillow issues too … and once again it’s time to replace them. Sigh.
Jerralea, ugh…pillow shopping.
You really did have a good month in August. You are indeed blessed!
We did, didn’t we?
“Don’t wait to be invited.” I love it! Great lesson for life. Just join in. Thanks for sharing!
Elizabeth sometimes it’s just right to “join in”.
Susan, I loved getting this peek into your month. Sweet! Bruce’s family is from Virginia — His dad grow up right next to the trail, and we were blessed to visit in 2010. This city girl loved every moment.
Lyli, I hope you’ll come back “real soon, ya hear?” That’s me, a Yankee, trying to sound Southern!!!
