Did you watch Billy Graham’s funeral televised from the BG Library in Charlotte NC? I sat glued to the livestream on my big computer screen. One of the things I loved most? His children speaking about their daddy.
Ruth Graham, the middle child of Billy and Ruth, was born in 1950 and her biography reads something like my own. You can read about her here. Her life was in chaos and as she drove up the driveway to her parents’ home she feared what they would say to her – would they even let her stay? Her father was in the driveway and as she approached him in tears she heard him say,
As I watched the screen and heard Ruth tell her story, I wept.
noun: PRODIGAL 1. a person who spends money in a recklessly extravagant way a person who leaves home and behaves recklessly; but later makes a repentant return.
Ruth Graham was a prodigal.
Susan Chamberlain Shipe was a prodigal.
Perhaps many readers can add their name to the list.
But later makes a repentant return.
