They’re Coming Home
This post is going to be all about Prodigals and the promises in the Bible that they are “coming home.”
I’m an expert at Prodigals. You know why? I.Am.One. Today, isn’t about my story – it’s about HOPE. We all need true, biblical hope that our prodigals will “come home.” You may want to read some other posts I’ve written about the subject and they can be found here and here and here.
As you can see by past posts, this topic of prodigals is high on my “thinking of list.”
The photo above reminds me of The Father (yes, God) who is walking down a road just waiting to see His prodigals cross over the horizon toward Him. He is hopeful and full of expectation. THAT image brings me great joy and delight.
The Bible Says…
Here we go… another Bible drill! One that is going to FILL YOUR HOPE TANK and cause you to HAPPY DANCE right there in your kitchen!
In no particular order:
I will return again to My place till they acknowledge their offense. Then, they will seek My face. Hosea 5.15
Your iniquities have separated you from your God; and your sins have hidden His face from you. Isaiah 59.2
My beloved had turned away and was gone…I sought him, but I could not find him; I called him but he gave me no answer. Song of Solomon 5.6
I hid and was angry, and he went on backsliding in the way of his heart. I have seen his ways, and will heal him. Isaiah 57.17-18
Have you not brought this on yourself, in that you have forsaken the LORD your God when He led you in the way? Jeremiah 2.17
He arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him. Luke 15.20
I will heal their backsliding, I will love them freely, for My anger has turned away. Hosea 14.4
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1.9
Then Jonah arose to flee…from the presence of the LORD. Jonah 1.3
Where can I go from Your spirit? Or, where can I flee from Your presence? If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. Psalm 139.7-8
Refrain your voice from weeping, and your eyes from tears; for your work shall be rewarded, says the LORD, and they shall come back from the land of the enemy. There is hope for your future…that your children shall come back to their own border. Jeremiah 31.16-17
Behold, the LORD’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; nor His ear heavy that it cannot hear. Isaiah 59.1
But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 2 Peter 3.8
Wait on the LORD; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart. Psalm 27.14
Please Be Encouraged
This holiday weekend meditate on these scriptures. Pray them over your prodigal/s. And, believe that God is still in the rescue business, calling our prodigals home.
Click on this image for a printable of the scriptures.
Susan, you did it again. I was a prodigal long ago. And I have a prodigal daughter. I started to write a post about it yesterday ( I’m not finished). Thank you for these lovely verses. Blessings dearest Susan.

Paula, do we live near one another? We must share a cuppa some day before heaven!!!
I love this. I was a prodigal. Still run away and/or get lost sometimes. I have two children who are prodigals. I guess, if you really think about it, most of us all.
My husband introduced me to a song by Phillips, Craig and Dean called “When God Ran,” and it touches me so much!
Thank You, God, for loving all of us prodigals and welcoming us back each and every time. May we not abuse that mercy and grace.
Love you, Sus’!
I know quite a few of “us.” I so admire those who have never strayed from Truth. Steadfast.
Always encouraged by your words.

So thankful God is still in the rescue business! I’m also grateful for the story of the Prodigal Son – it speaks to me on so many levels!
Me too, Jerralea. The father, the older brother, the prodigal. I’ve been them all.
Oh what a prodigal I was!
Now I am mother of two, bonus mom of 3, Nana to 14………all prodigals.
Your post renews my hope. Thank you!
Kathy
