Throne Room of Heaven
I feel as though I should offer a disclaimer as I write from Revelation. I am NO Bible scholar – never went to seminary, but I do love to study The Word, read the notes, and pray to discern. Those are my credentials!!!
This chapter contains 11 verses. The first one says,
Remember, it is John the Revelator telling us “these things.” Verse 2 says,
Immediately I was in the Spirit; and behold, a throne set in heaven, and One sat on the throne. 4.2
And He who sat there was like a jasper and a sardius stone in appearance; and there was a rainbow around the throne, in appearance like an emerald. 4.3
Ready For An Explanation?
When John says he was in the Spirit – means, he was in a very heightened spiritual state. Have you ever? I certainly have.
“He who sat there…” We learn in 4.8 that He who sits there is God Himself.
Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come. 4.8
One thing we can be sure is every stone, every number, every everything, is symbolic of something God deems very important.
My husband is, what I call a gemologist. He loves precious stones. So does God.
He who sat there was like a jasper and a sardius stone in appearance. Jasper is most likely diamond suggesting holiness and purity. Sardius is deep red, a picture of God’s avenging wrath.
…and there was a rainbow around the throne, in appearance like an emerald. The rainbow symbolizes God’s mercy. (Remember Noah, flood, ark, rainbow.) 4.3
Seven Lamps of Fire
- The Spirit of the LORD
- The Spirit of Wisdom
- The Spirit of Understanding
- The Spirit of Counsel
- The Spirit of Power
- The Spirit of Knowledge
- The Spirit of ‘the fear of the Lord’
One can just about wrap up the seven into One, and that is The Holy Spirit, the third member of the Trinity.
What else do we see in Chapter 4?
The infamous, heavenly Crystal Sea is mentioned in verse 6. Creatures with eyes in the back of their heads! These four creatures: a lion, a calf, a creature with the face of a man, and the fourth similar to a flying eagle.
Because of the mention of their eyes – we can assume they are ever watchful. The others (perhaps) represent: courage, strength, intelligence, and speed.
One Thing Is Very Clear
God’s holiness, His omnipotence, and His eternal-ness is worthy of a lot of praise, as we see in verses 8-11.
Revelation is a book of mystery. But, it also reveals so much of our faith. It takes a lot of faith to read John’s words and not fall into fear. The one thing I am certain of: when we read this book, and apply it, we will be blessed; and, the end of the Story is every believers HOPE.
