God, among all His wonderful attributes, is a mathematician! Imagine that! The One who breathed life into flesh adds and subtracts, multiplies and divides.
“Naked I came from my mother’s womb, And naked shall I return there. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; Blessed be the name of the Lord.” Job 1.21
Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the Lord caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea into dry land, and the waters were divided. Exodus 14.21
And, oh my does He ever multiply!
And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.” Genesis 1.22
So God blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them: “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth…” Genesis 9.1
Also God said to him: “I am God Almighty. Be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall proceed from you, and kings shall come from your body. Genesis 35.11
There are 45 references to multiply in the NKJV translation according to Bible Gateway. BUT, I think this is my absolute favorite example of God’s multiplication skills:
But He said to them, “How many loaves do you have? Go and see.” And when they found out they said, “Five, and two fish.” Then He commanded them to make them all sit down in groups on the green grass. So they sat down in ranks, in hundreds and in fifties. And when He had taken the five loaves and the two fish, He looked up to heaven, blessed and broke the loaves, and gave them to His disciples to set before them; and the two fish He divided among them all. So they all ate and were filled. And they took up twelve baskets full of fragments and of the fish. Now those who had eaten the loaves were about five thousand men. Mark 6.38-44
Now, that makes me want to stand up and do the happy hallelujah dance! Five loaves of bread and two fish feed 5,000 men. Talk about the power of multiplication!
God can use our littleness, our small amount and make it big. What is our “little”? Are we using it for His glory and for His Kingdom? We all have something we can do or share, and when we give to Him, the Multiplier, our five loaves and two fish – He can transform them into something huge for His glory and purposes.
The power of multiplication! It is my hope and prayer, that my words are multiplied for God’s glory today and every day.
