I was in the garden the other morning tackling a job I had put off long enough – weeding one of the raised beds. As I pulled the weeds out by their roots (ya gotta get the roots!) the thought occurred to me that there were no worms in the bed. Worms are a very good thing in a garden – they are a sign of healthy soil and good growth. It may be a writer’s thing … but, everything I do I relate to a story or a reflection of my life.
As I dug and pulled I began to wonder – if God began digging and pulling at the fabric of my life – what would He find? A healthy foundation with lots of life crawling through or just dead, dry dirt? I continued the task at hand and had all the weeds pulled and the dirt raked – now to the stinky compost bin – I emptied it out and dumped it into the lifeless bed.
Lots of organic, clumpy, living matter.
All of this “stuff” would help produce good, healthy food to nourish our bodies. I will forgo the analogy that I could use here!!
Later on in the day I asked Sharpshooter why there would be no worms in that bed. He reminded me of the mole we’ve had in the yard – he said those ugly (and they ARE ugly) critters love worms and can wipe out a population of earthworms in no time flat.
The thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy. John 10.10a
But I (Jesus) have come so that they (me and you) might have life and have it in abundance. John 10.10 b-c
The dirt life – what does your dirt look like? What does my dirt look like?
Here are some pictures from around the house of living things! I find myself wanting to be surrounded by life things today!
Jesus said, I am The Way, The Truth, and The LIFE! John 14.6
I am so blessed and grateful that I am HIS!

That is so Cool . Obviously the Holy Spirit finds the garden a good
place to teach life lessons. IF WE ARE LISTENING
Every time I hoe, weed or plant seeds Scripture comes to mind. Things like,
Being a Sower of the Word, Planting Good Seed, Reaping a harvest.
The Tares and the Wheat. Problems and the ROOT Cause. Hoeing
isn’t my favorite thing. I have a BIG garden. So at some point in the hot
sun, I occasionaly will cut off the top of the weed instead of removing the
Root and all. Of coarse the problem appears to be taken care of until a little
time passes and there it is again, Bigger and Stronger than ever. Proof that we must deal with and remove the root cause, problem and all, as the Lord
instructed, or the problem never really goes away. I love the planting and harvesting best. When I was a child, I remember the first time I planted a few grains of corn and they grew taller than me and produce sweet corn to eat! It was a Miracle! How could such a little seed produce something so big and wonderful to eat? So there it was the birth of loving to be a “Sower” just like that! Sowing Seeds of Truth, the Good News of Christ, Oh what an Amazing
Harvest it produces in the garden of our lives. If we will receive it and nurture
our relationship, we will grow in leaps and bounds and some will produce a hundred or a hundred thousands times that which was given to them. (Smiling)
I Loved, Your Dirt Story!
A bible teacher once said – “deal with the root of the sin, not just the fruit of the sin!!!”
Love it! You are so gifted. Thanks!
And, you are so kind!
Worms…always, always remind me of Father. The worm farm. They were big, fat, and warm. I remember dreaming of the worms in those beds of good, black earth. I think this afternoon I am going to stop what I am doing and ride out to Belle Glade and look at the rich black soil out there and start looking for the roots of the weeds in my life. But I also know I will find some worms in there too — living and loving the Lord.

You know I thought about that Earthworm Farm on Purdy Lane the entire time I wrote this blog and took pics. I loved going to that farm – did you?
