The year was 1997. The place was Hong Kong. The scare was H5N1, better known as the Avian Bird Flu. Do you remember? You can read about it here. I like to remember 1997 as the year our first grandchild was born but alas the bird flu made the headlines! THAT was the year I fell in love with the 91st Psalm.
Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling…Psalm 91.10b
I printed out Psalm 91 and taped it to our laundry room door (the one we use 100% of the time) with block letters above the copy: NOT TODAY SATAN!
NOT ANY DAY, SATAN!
Here’s an excerpt from 31 Days of Praying Psalm 91:
I have so much faith in God’s Word – I believe every dotted i and crossed t and I think its relevance is for TODAY. I think it is high time we fight the enemy of our souls and bodies with GOD’S WORD. That is why I think studying Psalm 91, praying it, believing it, and standing on it is imperative for believers in the 21st Century. I believe there is POWER in its words.
There are wonderful books written on the Psalm. One of my favorites is by Peggy Joyce Ruth and can be seen and purchased here. Ms. Ruth has written the Military version of her book also. There are testimonies of soldiers tucking the printed Psalm into the pocket above their heart and being spared shrapnel and other deadly hits.
Do you believe a Psalm-prayer can protect you? Your loved ones? Your home? Your health? Your business? I absolutely do.
As I chronologically read through the Bible in 2016, I learned that Psalm 90 was written during the time between Numbers 15 and Numbers 16. Then on March 22nd, 2016 as I did my daily reading, Psalm 91 was written between Deuteronomy 34 and Joshua 1. #lightbulbmoment The author of Psalms 90 and 91 was [most-likely] Moses himself. It was a revelation moment for me and the Spirit of God began stirring a desire to write a book on the power and the placement of Biblical history, of this magnificent proclamation of God’s protection.
The person who DWELLS in the Secret Place of the Most High shall (this is a legally-binding implication) abide under the Shadow of the Almighty.
Then, I began meditating on dwell vs. visits — and realized THAT is the key to the promises of Psalm 91. Am I a DWELLER? And, you know what? I am. And, I want every believer to be a DWELLER. #be-a-dweller I’ve been using that hashtag on my Instagram posts!
The book cover went from a photograph of an old Bible opened to the Psalm, by my sister-from-another-mother, Debby Hudson, who is also a wonderful photographer (she has a gallery of free-to-use images on Unsplash), to the simplicity of a feather! Quite an evolution, eh? I just couldn’t get the image of God Almighty covering me with His feathers out of my thoughts!
I could go on and on about the why and the background of my new book – but then you wouldn’t have to read it! Every born-anew follower of Jesus needs a copy of this book – I sincerely believe that!
I’m not selling books today – God will take care of that! But, I am going to give away a copy of 31 Days of Praying Psalm 91 and its very own journal for you to record your personal prayers and to track God’s promises! Leave a comment below to be entered into the drawing!
This week I’m linked up at the following:
Knock me over with a feather—I didn’t know Debby Hudson was on Unsplash! So good to get backstory to your book!
Oh yes, and she is phenomenal!!!
I have been wanting to read and memorize this book!!
Thank you for the chance!!
Yolanda I hope you get a chance!!!
You have done an amazing job promoting your book on Psalm 91. I love the backstory but more so your heart for writing what God lays on your heart. Your book is on my TBR list.
Mary, your kindness and encouragement? Mean the world to me. I write what HE tells me to write! Nothing more, nothing less! xo
I’m glad you are sensitive to God’s moving in all things. The feather was the right thing for your book. It completes what you were lead to do. I want to be more like you when I grow up 😉
You already are me. xo
Your book is on my list, as soon as I finish reading my current book that is up for a launch-review. I can’t wait to read and pray along with you. This Psalm is the favorite of one of my dear elderly friends. She has prayed this for years over her family!
Oh! Then you have a dear friend like my friend Hettie, who I mention in the book.
Susan, this one is on my list to read and pray through. I am most grateful you write and share what God places on your heart as we all get to benefit this way! The cover of this book is beautiful and speaks a message before a word is even read!
Thank you, kind friend!
Feather or not anyone else is…I am a Dweller! And yes, I know many who are Dweller’s. I just needed a rhyme!
Feather or not, sestra!
So cool! I love reading the backstory on the book and the cover—both are beautiful! Thank you for all you do to share his love with others. It shines!
Thank you my kindred bird friend!
My heart is filled with gratitude when I saw your FB post on Psalm 91! I read Peggy Ruth’ book a decade ago. Since then, I had not found another book on this specific Psalm until this morning. This is my life verse and chapter. Last year, God’s Ángels protected me from catastrophe in a tragic car wreck. I walked out of the scene without a scratch!!! Praising Jesus this morning for being alive and for finding more about your book.
Oh Adriana, I am delighted to hear this. Psalm 91 has saved our family from many, many catastrophic moments. I am very happy to hear of YOUR love for 91.
Amen This is great , I’m still going back to your Book on Wisdom, 31 days in Proverbs. More so lately. Look forward to getting this one on Psalm 91.
Perhaps you’ll get a copy for your 54th ANNIVERSARY!!! Don’t buy one, friend.
Cannot wait to see what God does in this next season of your life!
XO
Tammy, I’m trepidating but very excited. Did you see my glaring typo in this morning’s newsletter?
I have loved this Psalm for as long as I can remember, and just reading this blog today gave me a new appreciation of it. I can’t wait to purchase it and share with my mentor group!
O! Patricia, thank you. Leave a review on Amazon?
I love Psalms and need to dwell on it more!
DWELL in the Secret Place!!!
Psalms and Proverbs is what I read most and can understand more. I have always had trouble memorizing but just reading them can make such a difference to calm the soul. I love the feather on the book cover also. Speaking of calming, this is gonna be such a great move for you two. New beginnings…
AMEN, Merry. I’m going to email you about the book/journal sets. ok!
Susan, I enjoyed reading the backstory of your newest book. I sometimes have prayed using scripture, but haven’t gotten into the habit yet. Your book sounds like it would help me do just that. I do love Psalm 91! And I am definitely a dweller. 🙂 Blessings to you! Love and hugs! xo
Ah! Another dweller! The Secret Place always has room for more!
Oh honey, you know how much I Love, Psalm 91. Ever since my sons were small I would pray that psalm over them. Now I still do, but I also pray it over All of our grandchildren and great grandchildren. I cherish Psalm 91. . Thank you honey, for writing your new book on Psalm 91
Thank you, HM. You are my precious friend.
I *love* your “God will take care of that”…!
Inspiring.
He always does, Susan!
I want one. I’m a dweller. Remember the hidden life, 31 days to disappear (and no, I didn’t obey and write another book – still time, I’m slightly younger than you are, just barely)? I want to remember that Not Today and Not Any Day does Satan have control over me and my little birds. I don’t have door on my laundry room (what a concept- I’ll need to mention to my man-in-plaid.)
Make it a Dutch door please. Love you Sue and Constant Comment? A fave of my Mom’s also!
WONDERFUL! Love it!
Kathy
Ping! The sound of your name dropping in the hat!
Wow! The Lord really has captivated you with Psalm 91! 🙂
It is such a comforting and encouraging verse and a wonderful reminder that the Lord never leaves us or forsakes us.
May the Lord bless you and your new book.
I believe He wants everyone who knows His Name to be a dweller!
Not today satan, is a quote I have on my tshirt!!
There is no doubt that Psalm 91 is a powerful prayer for us to pray protection over ourselves and our loved ones! I once had this entire scripture memorized and used to pray it often! Not sure i can do that anymore, but ,maybe it’s time to refresh my skills!
Rachel, I’m trying. Brains have less absorption power the older they get!!!
Psalm 91 is very special to me. When I was pregnant with our first child, my husband worked the midnight shift. We had just moved to a big town after living all our lives in the country. I was afraid at night! The Lord gave me the idea to read Psalm 91 every night until I could fall asleep. Many a morning, I’d jerk awake with the bible laying on my tummy! As days went by, I became less afraid and only had to read it once before I could relax and sleep. I’ve never been afraid again.
Love the idea of being a dweller!
Jerralea, I.Love.This.
This! Much needed, very respected. I’m happy I navigated here from FMF.
Lisa, thrills my heart to read comments like yours.
Love this, The 91st is one of my favourites too, along with 144.
I must go read 144.
I’ve always been a big believer in the power our spoken words have. “Death and Life are in the power of the tongue…” and psalm 91 has words that I’ve spoken countless times over my life and my family’s lives. Thank you for a great post and a reminder that satan does not win! Can’t wait to read your book 🙂 Sharing the link!
Thanks Kate, for visiting from H*W. O! yes, our words hold power!
Susan – I love Psalm 91 and I love that you have written another 31-days book!!! You are amazing my friend. I just want to let you know that you are being featured tomorrow at #TuneInTHhursday XOXO
WELL, BE STILL MY HEART. Thanks a zillion, Deb. Truly, thank you. xo
