First of all, let me say I am no expert. I have been blogging since 2008 – I have been writing since 1958! My friend, Barbara, and I had a neighborhood newspaper called The Manor Times. We gathered newsworthy stories, we typeset every word with a one-letter-at-a-time stamp set, and we distributed it for ten-cents… [Read More]

taking the next thing to a whole new level

Years ago Elisabeth Elliot quoted a poem on her radio show that resonated with her listeners and changed the way women handled stresses in their day-to-day lives. The poem, “Do the Next Thing,” is penned by an unknown writer, yet the message has become universal. You can read the poem here. Ms. Elliot was no… [Read More]

breaking the bread – guest post

Hope | Heart | Home welcomes Hannah, our 18-year old granddaughter, to the writer’s desk.  Oft times on Sonday afternoon, Hannah emails a “Sunday Writing” to me after being inspired or moved by the message at The Cove Church, Mooresville NC. Yesterday was such a moment. Unbeknownst to Hannah, I wrote about Cleopas and the… [Read More]

Our granddaughter, Hannah, is turning 18 this week and I want to recognize her by posting a muse she wrote several weeks ago. Hannah graduates from high school this year and her career goal is to become a political journalist. Currently, she is in the process of applying to colleges, SAT’s, and, and a week… [Read More]

Joining the writers of Five Minute Friday over at Kate’s today. One word. Five minutes. 1-2-3 go: STILL Anyone who knows me knows I love being near the water. 31 days of hope

September 24, 2014 by admin 1 Comment

Who doesn’t love a good challenge? The Nester, Myquillyn Smith, hosts this 31-Day Write challenge every October where about two thousand bloggers choose a theme and write 31 posts and publish one each day on their blog. I love the idea, and although this is the fifth year of Write31Days, I only learned of… [Read More]

Even retired, I love weekends. Sunny and warm for Even retired, I love weekends. Sunny and warm for us is a bonus! This particular weekend is sweet and sorrow mixed. We get to travel a couple of hours with Gracee in tow, Lowell gets to see his civil war armaments comrades, and we will have lots of time with favorite grandson, Simon. But, we also bear the sorrow of missing our friend, Jimmy Reavis, at his celebration of life. James left this earth on March 13th after a battle with cancer, chemo, and its horrid side effects. It's a weekend of hello's and good-bye's. Life is like that, isn't it? I'm so grateful for the Hope my faith provides. Cannot imagine a weekend like this without it. 💔 ❤️
