I was raised in a gospel-preaching, Bible-reading church. A fellowship of believers who spoke of and taught that Jesus would return to earth and take those that belonged to Him back to heaven for eternity.
Belonging to Him meant one’s heart had been redeemed by the message of the cross. In other words, the person had been “saved.” We heard messages from the book of Revelation all the time. We learned our ‘hope’ was in Christ Alone and that one day Jesus Christ would return and take His church home to heaven, where we would spend eternity.
Truth be told, as a little girl whenever a certain man preached I would try to get out of going. He always preached end times prophecy and it scared the bahjeebers out of me! Now, as a 69-year old, I miss those teachings. In fact I cannot tell you the last time I heard a message concerning the return of Christ.
Not Afraid Any Longer
A good old Revelation message wouldn’t scare me now – I know I am ready for a natural death or a rapture!
Is hearing the same messages over and over again. How to enjoy your life. How to do it afraid. How to be a successful Christian.
I’m not boo-hoo’ing those messages but I think we need to get back to some hardcore truths.
“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.2 In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.4 And where I go you know, and the way you know.” John 14.1-4
“But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.33 Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time is.34 It is like a man going to a far country, who left his house and gave authority to his servants, and to each his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to watch.35 Watch therefore, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming—in the evening, at midnight, at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morning—36 lest, coming suddenly, he find you sleeping.37 And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch!” Mark 13.32-37
Am I Ready?
We are always to be ready for our Lord’s return but no one knows the day or the hour when that will be. P.R.
I remember when I worked for a small manufacturer and my ‘cubby’ was at the head of the stairs. People would leave the second floor and inevitably they would say, “I’m coming back.” One day, someone said that and I answered, “Jesus said that too.”
That response got more than a raised eyebrow – we had a long and positive discussion about it!
So Now What?
We go to our houses of worship. We praise the Lord. We walk in faith and victory. We declare The Word of the Lord. And, God forbid we ever allow it to become a social club!
And, we REMEMBER that at any moment Jesus Christ could split the eastern sky and call us home.
Are We Ready?
P.S. Want to be blessed?
Read the New Testament book of Revelation.
I said READ IT – you don’t even have to understand it…
Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near. Revelation 1.3
It’s one of those “on one condition” promises. If you read it, hear it, and keep it – you will be blessed! We can’t beat that, now, can we?
