And I thought I had a strange husband! Consider Mrs. Noah – married to Noah for approximately 500 years, lived a pretty normal life, had three sons and three daughters-in-love. The Bible tells us Noah found favor in God’s eyes so we can presume he was one of the good ones.
One day out of the blue, after all it had NEVER rained before so all the skies were always blue, God speaks to Noah.
I want you to build a boat because I am going to destroy the earth and all that is on it – but you and your family and a few animals I’m going to spare.
What’s a boat?
God was precise about this vessel. He told Noah exactly how high, how wide, how long this ship should be. And, Noah was obedient and began building. I’m sure his sons were in on the construction and the women stood by feeding them and handing them wooden pegs.
Can we even imagine?
The gossip at the water well?
What on earth is that Noah man thinking?
And, he has Shem, Ham, and Japheth out there with him!
That thing they are building is huge and it is being built to float!
I bet Mrs. Noah thinks he’s gone right off his rocker.”
One hundred years later…
Every living creature came and boarded that boat – male and female of EVERY SPECIES. Then, Mr. and Mrs. Noah, Mr. and Mrs. Shem, Mr. and Mrs. Ham, and finally Mr. and Mrs. Japheth, along with hoards of food on board, and hay and grain for the animals and birds.
And then? The LORD shut the door. Genesis 7.16
And the rains came
When it rained, it poured. That big sea-faring vessel rode the wind and the waves and everyone in the ark was spared.
Mrs. Noah, the object of ridicule and mockery, raised three obedient sons and lived to see the deep cleansing of the earth.
WE HONOR YOU, Mrs. Noah, and pay you tribute.
