Quietude: May 28 2017

May 28, 2017 by admin 6 Comments

It was by faith that Abraham obeyed when God called him to leave home and go to another land that God would give him as his inheritance. He went without knowing where he was going. Hebrews 11.8

I’ve only moved five times in my lifetime but each time I knew where I was going and what was waiting for me.

Just think about it. If God told you to move to East Tim-Buk-To and said just go because it is the land I am giving you and ALL you have and will have. JUST GO.

Can you even?

God, what am I going to do when I get there?

God, will I have a job?

God, where will I live when I get there?

God, will I know anyone?

God, what if I don’t like it?

God, could I just rather go to West Tim-Buk-To?

The things God didn’t tell Abraham?

Your wife won’t be able to get pregnant.

You will sleep with your wife’s maidservant and she’ll have a baby.

Sarah will conceive when she’s almost 100 years old.

That son you loved with all your soul? I’m going to ask you to sacrifice him on a stone altar.

I have no idea what God is asking YOU – but I do know the things He’s asking me. There’s no comparison to the list above.

And yet I whine. I complain. I grow discontent.

Shame on me.

Oh God.

Haven’t you enjoyed the beautiful flowers in May’s Quietude posts? All but the yellow rose on the 14th have been taken by 11-year old Olivia. I thought it would be fun for all of you to meet Olivia and leave her a word of encouragement in the comments! Enjoy the interview and the photo of my friend, Liv’!

How old are you? 11 and I will be 12 in September.

What grade will you enter in the Fall? 7th.

Where do you go to school? I am homeschooled.

When did you realize you had a flare for photography? I have always loved taking pictures with my Dad’s camera.

What is your favorite subject to photograph? Flowers.

What kind of camera do you use? Nikon Dx40.

Beside photography, what is your favorite past time or hobby? Horseback riding and drawing.

Do you have a favorite Bible verse and why do you choose it? Proverbs 3.5-6; I get anxious and worry a lot, this verse reminds me to trust God and not my own understanding!

Liv, you are awesome at 11 and God has a phenomenal plan for your life! Thank you so very much!

The quiet hour of prayer is one of the most favorable opportunities He has in which to speak to us seriously. In quietude and solitude before the face of God our souls can hear better than at any other time. O.Hallesby
When He gives quietness, who then can make trouble? Job 34.29

Kate said FRESH Here we go again! Adjective Adv Kate said FRESH

Here we go again!

Adjective Adverb Noun

The Very First

thing that went through my mind this morning?

Don’t be so fresh.

That is what my mom would say to anyone who said something crass, off-color, or…well, FRESH!
My mom was a character – my friend calls people like my mom, “Catbirds!”
I’m not even sure where my mom’s version of fresh fits in. Any help is appreciated!

Fresh

I do like the idea of something smelling fresh.
A fresh coat of paint.
A fresh outlook.
A fresh perspective.
It is fresh on my palette (regarding taste).
Sheets hung on the clothesline smell so fresh!

Look what I found…

They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green, 15 proclaiming, “The Lord is upright; He is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in Him.” Psalm 92.14-15

So…

At this point, on this dreary Friday morning – I am going to go have a fresh cuppa coffee. And, I intend to remain fresh and green, bearing fruit in my old age!!!
