Quietude: May 21 2017

May 21, 2017 by admin 7 Comments

…and we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. 1 Peter 1.4

Remember last week I mentioned I think of $ when I hear the word “inheritance?”

Well, when God talks about it? He is referring to the spiritual benefit and eternal salvation He promises to His people.

It’s His Promise to us!

Peter goes on to say, “So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you have to endure many trials for a little while. These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold – though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.” 1 Peter 1.6-7

THAN MERE GOLD.

Gold doesn’t seem “mere” to me but then again God walks on it so no wonder He calls it “mere.”

I just realized how much I needed to read this, write this today. There is nothing “mere” about God’s Spirit and how He directs and leads. If you are experiencing trial today, be encouraged – it is “mere” compared to what God has planned for us!

The quiet hour of prayer is one of the most favorable opportunities He has in which to speak to us seriously. In quietude and solitude before the face of God our souls can hear better than at any other time. O.Hallesby
When He gives quietness, who then can make trouble? Job 34.29

I’m teaching Jen Wilkin’s study on I Peter right now for Sunday School, and also trying to memorize the verses you spotlighted today! Thanks for getting my heart ready to open the Word with my Sunday morning women!

“There is nothing ‘mere’ about God’s Spirit.” Amen Susan! Thank you for sharing this on the #SundayThoughts link up today. What a reminder of God’s brilliance.

Kate said fix Today, I come to confess. Dun Dun D Kate said fix

Today, I come to confess.
Dun Dun Dun Dun…

I used to be a FIXER.

Family problems? Not to worry I will manage, manipulate, and fix it. The only problem? It gets expensive and very stressful.

Fixing is bad for your health.

I have learned

There is a Fixer better than myself. This Fixer can and will FIX anything and anyone IF you ask.
If you release.
If you give it up.
If you lay the object of fix on the altar of sacrifice.

Sometimes…

There is an immediate fix. Sometimes The Fixer will ask you to sit still and do nothing. Sometimes The Fixer will use you in the fix.
But THIS I know…

The Fixer really doesn’t need any help from me.

So, What Does One Do?

We pray and our prayers keep The Fixer involved, on the scene, and in the situation.

The Fixer

Do you know Him?

But may the God of all grace [THE FIXER], who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.11 To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen. 1 Peter 5.10-11

Who or what are YOU trying to fix? Give them/it to The Fixer!
