I took this photo years ago on a hike on the App Trail in the Grayson Highlands Park. The root system fascinated me then and still does today. There was no water near this path – is that why the roots of the huge tree stretch across the ground?
Shallow Roots vs Deep Roots
Water
Living Water
I want deeply-seated roots, planted firmly in streams of living water. I desire depth to surface. I want to be so deeply rooted no weapon, no garden tool, no adz, no shovel, no pick-ax, not anything can stir up my roots.
To honor You
Lord with all my heart
I worship You
All I have within me
I give You praise
All that I adore is in You
I give You my soul
I live for You alone
Every breath that I take
Every moment I’m awake
Lord, have Your way in me
To honor You
Lord with all my heart
I worship You
All I have within me
I give You praise
All that I adore is in You
I give You my soul
I live for You alone
Every breath that I take
Every moment I’m awake
Lord, have Your way in me
I give…
How are your roots?
The quiet hour of prayer is one of the most favorable opportunities He has in which to speak to us seriously. In quietude and solitude before the face of God our souls can hear better than at any other time. O.Hallesby
When He gives quietness, who then can make trouble? Job 34.29
Oh yes, oh yes, oh yes. “1 Blessed is the man[a]
who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
2 but his delight is in the law[b] of the Lord,
and on his law he meditates day and night.
3 He is like a tree
planted by streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers.” – Psalm 1:1-3
Thank you. Just what I needed to read today.
Beautiful!

Oh, Susan, I also want “…deeply seated roots, firmly planted…” May God give us strength and grace to follow His leading and be lights of hope in this dark world.
Blessings to you! Love you, dear sister. xo
Praying for those deep roots!
I love this. On the surface, you can’t tell the ones with deep roots from the rest…until turmoil stirs the surface and we’re all exposed for our true colors. Thanks for sharing this on the #sundaythoughts link up. Hope you have a blessed week!
I have a tree with roots like that too, so high up on the ground. I want deeper roots! Thanks for making me think of spiritual things when I see roots.
Beautiful! I especially want my roots to be so deep that they don’t trip others up by their surface placement!
At my daughter’s wedding there was this very large tree with very large roots and I remember praying for deep roots for my daughter and her new husband. I too pray for deep roots. I don’t want to continue to be tossed to and fro by the waves of life. I want to be planted by streams of living water, firm in His love and truth.
What an awesome prayer you blessed your daughter and SIL with that day. Amen!
