Several weeks ago I joined Bible Gateway Blogger’s Guild (BG2) – it seemed a good “fit” because I use Bible Gateway for all my online scripture research and resources. I love that I can see one scripture in however many translations as I need, and I don’t have to be a techie to use the site!
We all have our favorite, go-to Bible verses and I thought it would be fun and encouraging to share. I am going to share mine and then please in the comments share yours. I prefer the New King James Version – and when I memorize scripture this is the translation I commit to heart! Each scripture reference (below) is linked to Bible Gateway, so if you left click the link it will take you directly to the Bible Gateway reference! So easy to use.
My life scriptures:
Colossians 1.10 …that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God…
3 John 1.4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.
My favorite chapters:
He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress;
My God, in Him I will trust.”3 Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler And from the perilous pestilence. 4 He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler. 5 You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day, 6 nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday. 7 A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it shall not come near you. 8 Only with your eyes shall you look, and see the reward of the wicked. 9 Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge, even the Most High, your dwelling place, 10 no evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; 11 for He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. 12 In their hands they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone. 13 You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, the young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot. 14 “Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. 15 He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. 16 With long life I will satisfy him, and show him My salvation.”
John 17 (I call this the “real” Lord’s Prayer, as he walked toward Gethsemane.)
Jesus Prays for Himself
Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You, 2 as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him. 3 And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. 4 I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do.5 And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.
Jesus Prays for His Disciples
6 “I have manifested Your name to the men whom You have given Me out of the world. They were Yours, You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word. 7 Now they have known that all things which You have given Me are from You. 8 For I have given to them the words which You have given Me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came forth from You; and they have believed that You sent Me. 9 “I pray for them. I do not pray for the world but for those whom You have given Me, for they are Yours. 10 And all Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine, and I am glorified in them. 11 Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We are. 12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in Your name. Those whom You gave Me I have kept; and none of them is lost except the son of perdition, that the Scripture might be fulfilled. 13 But now I come to You, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have My joy fulfilled in themselves. 14 I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 15 I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. 18 As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. 19 And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth.
Jesus Prays for All Believers
20 “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; 21 that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. 22 And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: 23 I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.
24 “Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world. 25 O righteous Father! The world has not known You, but I have known You; and these have known that You sent Me. 26 And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.”
Note: the bold portions of the above two chapters are scriptures I pray for my children and grandchildren.
My favorite go-to scriptures:
Isaiah 26.3 You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.
1 Peter 5.7 …casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.
Romans 15.13 Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
1 Corinthians 15.19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable.
Perhaps one of these selections has ministered to you today and I pray that is the case, please share your thoughts, comments, and favorite scriptures with all of us!

My favorite passage, since my childhood (and that’s a very LONG time!) has been Mark 4:35-41. 35 And the same day, when the even was come , he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side. 36 And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships. 37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full . 38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish ? 39 And he arose , and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace , be still . And the wind ceased , and there was a great calm. 40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? 41 And they feared exceedingly , and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?
You see, I hated storms! This passage always let me know that God was with us, even though there might be wind, rain, lightning, and thunder, and it would help me sleep through those “weather” storms. Now that I’m grown, this Scripture combines with a passage from Matthew 6:25-34 to give me peace in the various storms that we face as adults: Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat , or what ye shall drink ; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? 26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? 27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? 28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow ; they toil not, neither do they spin: 29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? 31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. 33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. 34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself.
Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
I use BibleStudyTools.com for my daily Bible reading, along with devotionals from Dr. Adrian Rogers. I prefer the King James Version, having grown up using it. The New KJV is not “bad,” as some of the other versions/translations might be considered, but I just enjoy the language of the older version.

Oh yes, Proverbs 3.5-6 and Jeremiah 29.11 I should have listed them as faves!!!!! Thanks Jenifer!
We use the NKJV at church, but I am a fan of reading the verse and passage in several translations, plus in a Greek or Hebrew Dictionary so that I get all of the nuances and understand the full meaning of the passage with thorough study.

My all time verse is Psalm 91. Oh so many nights I would and still pray that over my son’s and their wifes and children. I remember praying one time over my youngest son, Justin, and he would always say, pray that again, how nothing evil can befall me. That will always be in my heart.
Yes, love Psalms 91!!!
I use Bible Gateway too. I’ve been using their audio feature lately to help me along in reading through the Bible. So many great resources. I love the Message and Voice translations. My life verse… Psalm 139:14. I recently looked it up in the Voice translation and love it even more… “I will offer You my grateful heart, for I am Your unique creation, filled with wonder and awe. You have approached even the smallest details with excellence; Your works are wonderful; I carry this knowledge deep within my soul.”
Thank you for sharing a few of your favorites with us.
Blessings.
