Light
Sunday’s message was titled, “Light It Up.” I’ve been thinking about it as I always do, for days afterward.
During the message the Pastor asked everyone to stay in their seats and not move around, then, he asked the production people to turn off all the lights in the sanctuary. For a brief moment it was pitch dark in the space. But after a few seconds our eyes got adjusted to the dark and we could see fairly well.
Darkness
When I was 28 years old my life came crashing down around me. My husband of almost 12 years told me he had an affair and he was quite certain he loved this person. We had three children under the age of ten and one of them was not yet one. My world went dark. A few months passed by and I began to adjust to the new normal – I began to grope around and find my way.
The Darkness of Sin
We separated and the children and I moved to a small house and my personal life became very loose. I was angry at God ( I was a believer) and so very disappointed in Him to allow our marriage to break apart. I ran away as hard and as fast as I could go.
I fell into great sin. And, my life was dark with it. And, yet I adjusted and began to find my way around in the darkness.
For A Season
My good, good heavenly Father allowed me to wallow in that darkness just long enough and then He began the holy pull on my lifeline back to Him. It was a gradual pull and at the end He laid it out for me plain and simple: Light or Dark – my choice.
Choose Light or Darkness
I chose Light and have never, for one split second, regretted my decision.
The Choice Is Before Us Every Day
Light or dark?
Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” John 8.12
I never want to walk in darkness again – I am the bearer of the Light of life.
His Name is Jesus.
‘Tis the season of Light – do you know Him?
In Him [Jesus] was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend [understand] it. John 1.4-5
The Light shines in the darkness; His Name is Jesus and He is my eternal HOPE.

A good one! Loved the #tinyhouse pictures!
Oh good – hoping everyone enjoys the pics!
Yes indeed I do know HIM! How grateful and thankful I am. This writing touches me ‘way down deep inside—perhaps my favorite (or at least one of them) that you have done. THANK YOU! We have a lot in common.
As for the tiny house pictures———–love love LOVE! Please keep them coming!

I know that!!!
Beautiful testimony, Susan. May we always answer the call to Light. Jesus draws us to him in myriad ways (sometimes we’re a little slow to recognize the pulls ;).).
This particular “pull” was beyond a doubt recognizable – remind me to tell you about it some sweet day!!!
Thank you for sharing this. I have several nieces and nephews that have rejected God. They know the way because most of their parents are in the ministry. I pray for them constantly.
Just last night I was awake for a hour praying for one in particular. Thank you for this encouragement
Mandy, I was a prodigal of the oonth degree. It was the prayers of my mom and grandma that kept me tethered. xoxo
Susan, I am so grateful for the holy pull!!! So thankful that He pursued me, and it sounds like you as well. Thank you for being so open and transparent.
Tweeted.
Thanks for linking up at InstaEncouragements! MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Oh that holy pull!
“And the Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness cannot comprehend it!”
Whether comprehend means understand or snuff it out (translators seem to disagree), I think they are both right, and you are EVIDENCE of that!
Blessings to you, my bright and shining friend!
Bright & Shining – wow!
Isn’t it amazing how we can get adjusted to seeing in the dark? I appreciate your analogy here, Susan. I’ve not thought of it quite that way. I want God to keep the lights on bright for me!
Amen, Lisa! Not even a dimmer switch!!!
