Talking About Healing
He sent His word and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions. Psalm 107.20
Yes, I believe in faith-healing. I also believe in supernatural healing. The laying on of hands? O! Yes! Anointing with oil? Yes, Lord.
Years Ago…
Many years ago I sat on a hard bench at Community Church, Mountain City TN and the Lord and I were having a conversation. It was about health insurance! We were at a crossroads of sorts – we were either going to get a big health policy at a huge co$t or we were going to do something else. I believe this was approximately 2006-7. The cost was staggering and we were both in excellent health. I told the Lord I didn’t want to spend all that money on health insurance – and, as He does on a regular basis, He answered me.
Susan, take care of yourselves, eat healthily, don’t do stupid things, be pro-active and I will provide your good health.
Yes, Lord, we will – I’ll see to it.
We Enrolled
In a Christian Healthcare Ministry – where believers share one another’s health concerns and medical bills. To this day, we are still enrolled. It is founded on the Biblical principle of “bearing one another’s burdens.” What a concept, eh?
Our Formula
So, what do we do when we aren’t well? #1 – we pray and anoint with oil for healing. #2 we believe God will intervene or direct us to seek medical help. I am not fond of the medical world we have today – it seems doctors only want to make patients and not really assist in healing.
We try to eat correctly (food is medicine) and we take only good supplements. We seek alternative medical treatments (nothing weird).
True story: A friend asked a doctor friend what she could do for such and such and you know what his answer was? “I have no idea, I only learned what prescriptions to prescribe.” (True Story)
The Bible Says
A lot about healing. Let’s take a look!
Therefore the sisters sent to Him, saying, “Lord, behold, he whom You love is sick.” John 11.3
But He, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, and did not destroy them. Yes, many a time He turned His anger away,
And did not stir up all His wrath; 39 for He remembered that they were but flesh, a breath that passes away and does not come again. Psalm 78.38-39A bruised reed He will not break, and smoking flax He will not quench; He will bring forth justice for truth. Isaiah 42.3
As a father pities his children, so the Lord pities those who fear Him. 14 For He knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust. Psalm 103.13-14
“He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses.” Matthew 8.17
When Jesus heard that, He said, “This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified through it.” John 11.4
And More…
And His disciples asked Him, saying, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” 3 Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him. John 9.2-3
Then your light shall break forth like the morning, your healing shall spring forth speedily, and your righteousness shall go before you; the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard. Isaiah 58.8
For I will restore health to you and heal you of your wounds,’ says the Lord, ‘because they called you an outcast saying: “This is Zion; No one seeks her.” ’ Jeremiah 30.17
And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong. 2 Corinthians 12.9-10
You
You may not agree with my opinions and that is more than alright. We do seek medical advice when necessary. We are not stiff-necked nor unteachable. We use wisdom. I choose not to take prescription cocktails every day. It’s just not for me and I remind the Lord of what He told me years ago. I am doing my part and He said He’d do His. I’m counting on it.
I don’t expect to live forever (well, I will in heavenly places!) and I certainly want to live every single day He gives me. These beliefs of mine have been tested recently but I’m standing firm and being wise. And, I want to remember that God has numbered our days…and His plan is perfect – sometimes difficult to understand but He knows far more than we do.
All of these wee ones have been healed and are playing in the Fields of Heaven.
For far too many years I ate what I enjoyed eating without much thought to the long-term health implications. God, in his wisdom, gave me a skin problem that covered about 80% of my body. I was miserable and always itching and spending too much time thinking and doing stuff to get relief. The dermatologist tried drugs and RX skin creams. Nothing really worked. I then started to eat differently. I think the Lord was using the skin problem to change my dietary habits. About 1.5 years later I am without my skin problems. At 70, I feel like 50 again. But I am looking forward to being with the Lord!
Wayne, are you a “1950 model?” Food IS medicine. I’m so glad you are enjoying life without skin probs!
I am waiting on the Lord, for my healing to be made complete. It has been a slow go , but moving in that direction. While I was in the hospital with Covid Phenomia , the Holy Spirit gave me a verse that I kept claiming in prayer to the Lord. ( I still am)
“Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; Save me, and I shall be saved, For You are my praise.”
Jeremiah 17:14 NKJV
My Saviour, My Redeemer, M Healer, My Friend……. I give you Praise!!
ARNA! SO GOOD TO SEE YOU HERE. How are you woman? I prayed as soon as I heard you were in hospital. Love you.
God is always willing and able. He heard your prayers and many others. For the past 30 days have been dealing with the Covid thing. I am home with oxygen now. Not sure how long it will take for my respiratory system to mend completely. But Trusting in Him. I drop in occasionally and enjoy your posts. I ordered two of your books on tiny houses, and boxed gardens. Enjoyed them both. Makes me want to moved down there beside you and Lowell. Told Dale I was sure I could clean a tiny house much faster than a big one. We Love and miss you guys. Come visit us when in the mountains. Would love to see you again our dear friends. Keep on sharing the Good News and giving Hope and Encouragement to others.
There’s room in our tiny village for two more tiny houses. Com’on!!!
I love hearing your thoughts here. I recently finished treatment with a naturopath for Lyme, and was grateful for the insights she offered that were outside the scope of traditional medicine.
MM, I did the same thing for Lyme a couple of years ago. It helped me so much. SS
There are some wonderful alternative medicine protocols that have helped my family over the years.
And though there are times when we seek traditional medicinal help, most of the time, we don’t. God has kept us healthy, especially when we do the right things for our bodies, like watch what we’re eating and getting enough sleep. and, ultimately, trusting the Lord to keep us healthy.
Amen, Jeanne – my thoughts exactly.
Susan,
Psalm 40:1-3 I claim as my life verse. I do take some medicine, but I am responsible for doing all I can to stay healthy (use the brain God gave me to make good food choices) and to pray for His unfathomable healing. He has brought me out of the pit of depression and anxiety. God is my ultimate healier.
Blessings,
Bev xx
