If you receive my weekly email this is a familiar line. I trust some of you take me up on the offer and enjoy a hot steaming cuppa something and read the few words I share.
It is February 1st! February the month of love and hubs’ birthday. I have no idea how it happened but he will be 70 this month. How can it be? And, I’m not too far behind him! He has less gray hair than I do but is braver than I am and let’s his show – he keeps mine colored! Remember, he spent most of his lifetime doing hair as a professional hairdresser!
January has been a month of writing and words and it has been well worth it! 40 Days of Lent will be ready within a week and I must admit, I am excited. A devotional for the 40 days of Lent has been a to-do for about three years – the Lord doesn’t forget things and toward the end of 2016 He said, “Now is the time.”
Yes, Lord!
The cover is done and there is a bit of work to do on the interior pages and then submit!
It’s been a month of resting too – someone asked me how one writes a book and rests at the same time! Let me put it this way, I know when to walk away from the screen and vegetate! That sounds lovely, right? Well, true confessions: the nativity is still out, the snowmen are still out, and the tree of Hope still has Christmas ornaments. But, the kitchen is clean and the floors vacuumed and the bed is always made! Those are worth a few points, yes?
We’ve squeezed in two short visits with our kids and packed them tighter than a can of sardines. We’ve celebrated a birthday and we almost bought a car (another story for another time). We’ve planned a trip and we’ve shoveled snow. We’ve fed the birds and read books!
And I’ve drank enough lemon-ginger tea I could float!
January, you were good and I’ll miss you but here’s to February adventures, hearts, flowers, and lots of lemon-ginger cuppas.
Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God…2 Corinthians 3.5
xo
Sounds like much is brewing for February! The cover of your book looks lovely!! It’s amazing how much activity can be accomplished when one is “resting”. Resting comes to mean a break from the unimportant so that you can focus on the important. And you sure did!
Happy Birthday to your hubby! And now I know why your hair always looks beautiful 🙂
I am just so glad you visit me – your words and presence are important to me! xo
This: t’s been a month of resting too – someone asked me how one writes a book and rests at the same time! Let me put it this way, I know when to walk away from the screen and vegetate! <—- Lovely wisdom here. I agree, we women often take on more than we can handle. Our eyes/ears are bigger than our hands/hearts. When we rest in Him, we become more centered. We become more IN HIM. I love this devotional, and I am thankful God placed me as your virtual neighbor at Holly's link up. Having a "Cuppa Tea" right now…write now. I have Bigelow's Benefits today: herbal blueberry aloe something or another. Love, Jenn
Jenn, I’m having a cuppa regular old Red Rose with a little stevia and milk!!!! THANK YOU FOR COMING OVER TO MY HOUSE.
I love these visits, and just know that if we had tea together it would be a blast. Enjoy the rest and blessings on the all your writing. I’m not quite sure how you do it all!
Michele – how do YOU read so many books? 😉 You read ’em, I write ’em. LOL
You two! Both of you, readers and writers, amaze me!
We amaze YOU? How about you amazing us with all your awesome creativity!
We always need rest along the way. Sometimes it is time to walk away and rest or get perspective. That is an art all in itself!
Sarah, it truly is.
Love the verse you shared Susan. Our sufficiency is from God. I needed just that just now. And a glimpse into your life is always nice too 😉
Debby, I really think THAT scripture on sufficient/sufficiency is “it”…
Funny.
I just brewed myself a cup of ginger lemon tea as I sat down to read your blog which I much enjoyed! I want to purchase a copy o f your Lenten book and look forward to seeing you and Lowell later this month!
PS I enjoy how you look at all the blessings in a month and celebrate them! Sounds like a mindful way to live . I hope to do the same.
MINDFUL. Intentional. & at times, spontaneous! The way I want to live.
I love sharing a cuppa with you. I’ll be buying lemon ginger tea!
XO
Tammy
TWININGS only
Susan: you always amaze me with your energy. I wish my husband was a hairdresser cause it is costing me a small fortune each time I go to the salon. Happy Birthday Lowell. I love the cover for your new book too! Can’t wait to hear the “car dealer” story. I have my “cuppa” French Vanila coffee n ready to read Sarah Young’s ” Jesus Calling” a daily devotional. Have a great trip to Florida n if time permits give a call. 772-288-3903. Please pray for my sister-in-law, Cathy Schwallie, third bout of cancer treatments after her five year remission. One last request is to pray for our country n leader. Today’s paper ask’s if he is really 70 or 7??? Lol. Hugs
I plan to call YOU while in PSL.
Your words come from your soul of integrity. They never fail to lift, remind, bring out, sift and raise up.
Jesus is sufficient. He is the only One in this life that is. Selah.
A soul of integrity? Thank you, elder one.
Love the cover of the book can’t wait to read!! Always am blessed by your books.
Aw….thank you Shirley!
YOU are an amazing woman……………………………………………………………..
Kathy
Not really. Just focused and disciplined!!!???
Wish I was closer to be able to have a cuppa in person. Miss you!!
You know where I live!!!
Delightful as always, my friend! I loved January as well for the quietness it brought to our home. I had more reading and writing, more quiet and reflection, more fires and steaming cups, and I consistently slept better at night!! (We didn’t take down Christmas decorations until about 10 days ago!) February will be busier for us with several short trips to celebrate a grandchild’s birthday and see another in a regional basketball tournament. BTW…birthdays seem to creep up faster each decade. (I say that as someone seeing the number 70 in my rearview mirror!!!)
Pam, if ever in the northwestern corner of NC? We must…
I enjoy sitting and having my cuppa with you, Cafe Caramel right out of my Keurig this morning. Congratulations on your new book.
Cafe Caramel – sounds so yummy!
I always love the month of February because our church hosts a marriage retreat every year at this time, Susan. This year we’ve got a speaker from the Marriage Institute in Branson. We’ve had these speakers before and they bring the stuff they do in their marriage intensives, so you know it’s top-notch stuff! Thanks for sharing your “cuppa of joy” with us each week!
February, the month for love and marriage retreats!!!! xo
I Love these months of winter, to slow down and get up early with my Bible and devotions. Your book looks beautiful, come on over to my house one Saturday for a cuppa tea…
How about LUNCH?
Susan,
You are married to a professional hair stylist? How lucky you are! To get prompt attention to wayward hair must be a dream! 🙂 {This was my prime takeaway from your post, although I enjoyed the rest of it, too! } xo
Valerie – it’s okay. HAIR IS IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am finishing my cup of hot lemon/lime water now, and looking forward to your new book coming out! Thanks for this fun glimpse into your life. (And my Snowmen are still out also!) Blessings!
BettieG….I succumbed to my own guilt and packed everything away this morning! 😉
I love reading your posts they always have special meaning to my heart. You have such a great way of expressing your words. Love to read your words and then feel your heart in them. May God Bless you dearly and thank you for you!!
Wowsers, thank YOU!
I’m excited to read your devotional. This whole year is going to be about resting and slowing down for me.
Sounds Hygge to me! And, a good idea!
How is it already February. January was a good month looking forward to the next one! 🙂
We need the calendar to slow down!
Thanks for letting us into your world. Keep up the good work. Love you.
Karen
Glad you’re out of your writing cave!!!!
I’ve been on a tea kick lately. I haven’t tried lemon ginger though. That sounds yummy! You had a busy month friend.
Make sure it is TWININGS lemon & ginger, and be sure to use honey.
Congratulations on your upcoming book release!
Thanks Anita!!! It’s coming SOON.
