A Kept Woman!
I’m not ashamed, I am a kept woman!
Are you?
My heritage of faith. Grandma Emily Chamberlain prayed John 17.15 over my sister and I our whole lives.
Keep them from the evil one and sanctify them with Your Truth.
Now, we pray those words over our children and their children and their children.
Blessing
This is how we give our families a legacy of faith. We pray and speak blessings over their lives. My sister and I are blessed to an extreme because of the prayers of our grandparents and our mother.
I will never ever forget the day my grandmother, as she laid on her deathbed, said to me, “Who will pray for my little ones?” I hung my head low and whispered, “I will.”
She quickly pointed out to me that until I stopped living in a lifestyle of sin, my prayers didn’t make it past the ceiling.
Ouch!
Jesus’ prayers
In Matthew 6 we find Jesus teaching His disciples how to pray.
Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
10 Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
13 And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
In John 17 we find Jesus interceding on behalf of Himself, His followers, and those who come to faith at a later time (us!).
Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You,2 as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him.3 And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.4 I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do.5 And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.
John 17 – The Real Lord’s Prayer
About four years ago, at the end of a big writing project, the Lord spoke to me and clearly instructed, “Write a devotional on your favorite New Testament chapter, John 17.”
I knew I would but I resisted for a season or two because I was afraid I wouldn’t do it justice. Yet, this pivotal prayer doesn’t need my help – because everything Jesus wanted us to know He said! The entire chapter is printed in red. It is a true Intercessor’s Prayer prayed by our very own Lord Jesus. How could I go wrong!?
I finished this little gem during the height of Covid19 – and I didn’t give it much promotional attention, but, today I’m changing that. The book, with the lovely watercolor painting on its cover, is available on Amazon as a softcover. There is a Kindle version but I always recommend “real” books as devotionals in order for you to write and journal as Holy Spirit reveals things to you.
I am KEPT
So, now you know I am a kept woman – kept from the Evil One by the One and Only, True and Living God!

Beautiful, Susan! I just finished your book today! I will be heading to Amazon soon to leave a review, because your words were such a blessing. HIS prayers for us are eternal, and that is such a wonderful promise.
Thank you Bettie!

Love ………love…………love! Thank you!
And, you like the book?
I look forward to your study of John 17. It really is the real Lord’s prayer. Blessings on you and the sales of this book!
Mandy, it truly is!
Susan, there is so, so much in John 17. I love the idea of being a kept woman . . . kept by Jesus, that is! How wonderful that you’ve written a devotional on this chapter!
It wasn’t a choice, Jeanne – mandated by the Writer Himself!!!!
Look forward to reading this – just checked it out now on Amazon UK and it is available there too. God bless your faithful obedience in writing what He prompted you to write 🙂
Sharon, I love knowing my book will be read in jolly ole England!
Susan,
How humbling to know that Jesus, Himself, intercedes for us – now there’s some power to those prayers. I, too, am a kept woman. I delight in being kept by my Lord and Savior. So glad you followed God’s urging and didn’t let doubt stand in your way. Will definitely check it out. I appreciate your insights!
Blessings,
Bev xx
Thanks, Bev!
Can’t wait to give this book some “promotional attention!”
I’m excited you’re going to be giving it some promo!!!
I am so excited for you! I love the task your grandmother gave you, the words she spoke over you – I want to be a grandma like that! Heading over to order!
Thanks! MaryLeigh!!!
