HOPE – the first week of Advent

December 1, 2020 by admin 20 Comments

Celebrate Advent!

We don’t have one of those clever Advent calendars with chocolate candy or felt figures but we do have a December calendar and know it is the beginning of the Great Advent of Jesus Christ. Two thousand plus years ago, a baby was born in Bethlehem – not any baby, mind you, but the Son of God. The Lord Jesus Christ – God in an earth suit!

The world has not been the same since. In a very dark time, over four hundred silent years – no more prophets, no more scrolls, no more heralding angels bringing messages.

Dark, stark silence.

A world without hope.

I can’t even imagine. Can you? We get down and depressed if we don’t hear from the Lord for ONE DAY! But, 4 0 0 years.

H O P E was born

If you’ve been around Hope Heart Home much at all – you know how I feel about HOPE! It is the very air I breathe and I am convinced, IT CHANGES EVERYTHING.

Remember…

Hope, based on anything but Jesus Christ is as futile as wishing upon a star. – me

Let’s Light The Hope Candle!

I rest [or, dwell] in Hope.

Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices; my flesh also will rest in hope. Psalm 16.9

I am strong in Hope.

Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart, all you who hope in the Lord. Psalm 31.24

God is my Hope.

For You are my hope, O Lord God; You are my trust from my youth. Psalm 71.5

Your Word is my Hope.

I rise before the dawning of the morning, and cry for help; I hope in Your Word. Psalm 119.147

God’s mercy and redemption is my Hope.

O Israel, hope in the Lord; for with the Lord there is mercy, and with Him is abundant redemption. Psalm 130.7

My Hope is eternal.

For surely there is a hereafter, and your hope will not be cut off. Proverbs 23.18

God Himself is Israel’s Hope.

O the Hope of Israel, his Savior in time of trouble, why should You be like a stranger in the land, and like a traveler who turns aside to tarry for a night? Jeremiah 14.8

I am a prisoner of Hope!

Return to the stronghold, you prisoners of hope. Even today I declare that I will restore double to you. Zechariah 9.12

I am a slave of Hope!

Paul Susan, a apostle servant of Jesus Christ, by the commandment of God our my Savior and the Lord Jesus Christ, our my hope… 1 Timothy 1.1

Is He Yours?

It is my hope and joy to know you are also a prisoner of Hope! Share your story below! Let’s light the candle of Hope together!

Are you a prisoner of HOPE? Advent begins! #bgbg2

Susan, I love this. There has been a shift in me the last little while. I think the shift could be labeled “hope,” as There seems to be a light shining inside me these days – a beacon of Hope, perhaps?

I loved this post. And you.

Amen! Thank you for this gathering of hope Scriptures! That “prisoner of hope” Scripture has been such a strong help for me in the past. I needed to be reminded of that today!

I don’t have one of those yummy chocolate Advent calendars either. The Advent season might speed by too quickly if I did. ha.

Hope changes everything. I so agree with you, Susan! Thanks for these beautiful reminders of the different ways that God works through hope.

I cannot imagine 400 years of silence from God. So very grateful for His Word which fills us with hope each time we open its pages and read.

Here we go again!

The Very First

thing that went through my mind this morning?

Don’t be so fresh.

That is what my mom would say to anyone who said something crass, off-color, or…well, FRESH!
My mom was a character – my friend calls people like my mom, “Catbirds!”
I’m not even sure where my mom’s version of fresh fits in. Any help is appreciated!

Fresh

I do like the idea of something smelling fresh.
A fresh coat of paint.
A fresh outlook.
A fresh perspective.
It is fresh on my palette (regarding taste).
Sheets hung on the clothesline smell so fresh!

Look what I found…

They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green, 15 proclaiming, “The Lord is upright; He is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in Him.” Psalm 92.14-15

So…

At this point, on this dreary Friday morning – I am going to go have a fresh cuppa coffee. And, I intend to remain fresh and green, bearing fruit in my old age!!!
