Many people have set out to write accounts about the events that have been fulfilled among us. 2 They used the eyewitness reports circulating among us from the early disciples. 3 Having carefully investigated everything from the beginning, I also have decided to write an accurate account for you, most honorable Theophilus, 4 so you can be certain of the truth of everything you were taught. Luke 1.1-4 (NLT)
Last Sonday our pastor preached on these four overlooked opening verses of the gospel of Luke. I have no intention of writing his sermon because, number one, I cannot recall ALL of it. BUT, it was one of those messages that had a lasting impression. I’m still carrying it around and thinking about “full and complete.”
Doctor Luke. Gentile. Scholar. Writer. Historian. Fact-finder. Reporter. Believer in Jesus. Author of two books: The Gospel of Luke and the Book of Acts.
I love the Doctor. THIS doctor. He is confident in his research and authoritative in his diction.
Way to go, Doc.
When I speak of Jesus, I want to sound like him.
Having carefully investigated everything from the beginning, I also have decided to write an accurate account for you…so you can be certain of the truth of everything you were taught.
Are you confident you know Truth? This holiest of seasons – this season of gift-giving and holy pauses…we can be certain that everything written about the Lord Jesus Christ, within the God-inspired Holy Bible, is accurate Truth.
He was born of a virgin.
He lived a sinless life.
He was crucified by the Romans.
He was buried in a borrowed tomb.
On the third day He resurrected from the dead.
He stayed on the earth for approximately 40 more days.
He ascended into Heaven before the eyes of His apostles.
He sent Holy Spirit, just as He promised.
He IS coming again.
Full and Complete.
In a day and age when a person can wake up and call themselves an octopus because they “feel” like an octopus, isn’t it refreshing and encouraging to KNOW TRUTH? To have a black and white standard of right and wrong? To have an accurate and certain accounting of Truth? One that is…
Full and Complete.

Yes! So much yes to this post! The Lord has me in a place of waiting on big areas of life, cut off from my usual go-to self comforts. It is hard and it is very uncomfortable. It is NOT scary. It IS beautiful because The TRUTH is that He is using these circumstances to draw me closer to Him. Spending a lot of time at the Cross with my Savior these says. What a beautiful gift!
Waiting is so very excruciatingly hard. An acronym given to my sister during a difficult time is W.H.A.T.
Wait Hope And Trust
I hope somehow this simple word WHAT will bring you comfort and HOPE. Because #hopechangeseverything
Love this post! Love Dr. Luke myself! And, calendars, what an awesome idea!

Tammy
Dr. Luke – would you not love to sit with him !
Hi Susan, Amen and Amen! Yes, it is so encouraging to know the truth! And I also like how you spell Sonday!
Alyson, a habit I got into a long time ago. Thanks for coming over!
Oh, yes Amen! What a wonderful Lord we have, ALL TRUTH! Thank you for these rock-solid words today. And thanks for the reminder to go get your book today! 🙂 Can’t wait to read it later!
Bettie, you are always so supportive! Thank you very much.
Thank you for this sweet retelling of the Story, Susan! I’m looking forward to having a read-aloud time with it when my Granddaughters are here soon! And I left a review over at Amazon for it too! 🙂
BettieG, you are so good to me! THANK YOU.
What a confirmation you are!! You know the series I am currently writing and the one that will be up on Monday focuses on the word “complete”. Love this post! I am also a member of Luke’s fan club. I love his detailed accurate descriptions throughout his gospel.
Frigid here in Ohio today with 4+ inches of snow coming tonight. Looking forward to a warm fire tonight and making a pot of chili for dinner!!
I love when confirmation happens and to be the delivery? Love it!
Luke is such a great book!
Truly, it is.
Great thoughts to ponder! We are blessed by scholars like Luke who have provided an accurate account of the story of Jesus. What a gift!
The Best Gift!
Great blog Mimz!
Thank Y♥U my sweet.
Yes! I’m so glad we have a full and complete account of Jesus (after all, all too often I fall short and if people are judging Jesus by my actions, we’re all in for a big disapointment).
Anita, isn’t it the truth? I’m already repenting for some behavior of mine this past weekend. UGH.
Yes to this! It reminds me of “being a good Berean,” which Luke also recorded in the book of Acts.
I’m going to look that one up, Kelly R.
Yes, so very comforting to have an absolute in Him. Truth without circumstance. Thanks for sharing this, Susan. (P.s., love the way you spell “sonday.” 🙂 ) Hope you’re having a wonderful season filled with the truth of His glory. ((hug))
Brenda, I hope you are as well.
Dear Susan, we run in circles, shouting and grabbing, at any and everything we think may make us full and complete. Thank you for the reminder that the only way is to fall at the feet of the Babe in a manger. Christmas blessings on you and Hubs!
Alice, THANK YOU and the very best to you and yours. xo
We are blessed with such a great lord! All truth!! I liked the way you explained everything here. Also, I liked the way you spelled Sonday.
Stephanie, our pastor of 15 years changed the spelling of SONday and now I can’t get out of the habit and don’t want to!!!
Love Luke, truth, and accuracy. Thank you for sharing. I think we hear the story so often we don’t pay attention to the details. Great post! Maree
Maree, those first four verses? Surely alluded me. xo
I, too, am so glad that Jesus is full and complete! Such a blessing for us. Have a Merry Christmas, Susan!
Lisa, YOU TOO!
