Kate and the FMF tribe met last night over on Twitter. At 9:45 p.m. she said…

Kate said NEAR last night – I saw the word before I went to bed and the very first thing that came to mind is a scripture.
Draw NEAR to Me and I will draw NEAR to you.
I don’t always think of a scripture right away on a prompt – if you read any of my FMF posts you know that. Sometimes I go a little crazy with poetry or some weird thought but today I’m going serious on you!
Last week our Pastor (Tim Cox Jr) preached a message about the holy pauses. I keep thinking of this holy pause between Thankgiving and Christmas. Advent, as we refer to it, is a long holy pause — or at least it should be.
This season I plan on being very intentional about the pauses…not all of them will be holy but I intend to savor the Savior this month. You know the whole manger, Bethlehem, Magi, Shepherds, no vacancy story is true. I stake my very life on it.
And because I do?
I am going to get seriously NEAR the journey, the stench of a dirty cave, the awkwardness of the stinky shepherds, the labor pains, the hideous decree of Herod, an inn with no rooms…yup, that’s where you’ll find me for the next few weeks.
And, you know what?
He will be incredibly NEAR.

I love holy pauses. We truly need them or we become less human. Thanks for your post. Blessings to you this season!
To you as well Mari-Anna.
Funny how this one simple word can turn our thoughts toward the very One who is near us every day.
There was no where else to go with this word.
Oh, yes! I am longing to draw NEAR to Him this month also! Joining in for the #HolyHaiku as I can, and sharing writing with Ifeoma this month also. HE joins us all together to come near to HIM! xoxo
So glad you are joining #holyhaiku! I just saw your post on IG.
Thank you for this lovely reminder that this is a season to savor our Savior! May he bring peace and space for you to do just that!
I believe we are going to have a good time in the pauses. Jesus and me!
Holy Pause. This space – breathing, noticing, taking time, have been on my heart. In the midst of raising two feisty little girls, it’s hard to remember to pause but I feel like I need to incorporate this. I’m so glad Advent – this global pause – starts soon. Thank you for this encouragement!
Yes, a global pause and if necessary? In our very own living room!
The same verse came to mind for me too. And yes, this season is a great time to pause and draw near to the amazing story of God drawing near to us!
Yes ma’am, indeed it is!
Love your preacher’s words – the holy pause. What timing from God to go with #FMF this week Susan.
I do too, Debbie – and I’ve been deliberately taking those holy pauses. xo
Yes holy pause. Advent is exactly that.
It truly is.
Yes! As we draw near to Him, He will draw nearer to us.
It’s a promise!
Honestly, the first thing I think of now with the word ‘near’ is Simon the Cyrene in Mel Gibson’s “The Passion Of The Christ”, saying to Jesus as he helps Him with the Cross, “We’re nearly there.”
Andrew…
A holy pause is well stated. I think this encapsulates the culmination of the year and the start of a new life in Christ.
Erendira, it certainly does. Appreciate your visit today.
