My mind is hard-pressed on Irma and Florida – where loved ones abound. Watching the cone; mapping the coordinates. Praying non-stop. Never saying amen. Nothing is taking precedence over this prayer and watch vigil. I peeked into the FMF party and sent blessings and a request to pray – these are true friends and I know they are praying. Many of them are drying out from Harvey and have great empathy. Some live in Nepal where flood waters devastated miles and miles and took too many lives. In case you haven’t noticed? The world is groaning and things seem to be escalating – read my blogpost here on Storm Warnings – what to do when the waters around you are rising and you are barely treading water in life’s storms. Before I turn the timer on I want to say something about this image! I love it for many reasons. My hubs blacksmithed for over ten years, in the 80’s and 90’s. He turned some gorgeous architectural items: tables, chandeliers, bedframes, lightposts, stair rails, fences – stunning work and he was very, very good. I’ve traveled to blacksmith workshops with him and it always amazed me to see women swinging a hammer and making the anvil ring – it takes real strength to do that. Women are incredible – they really can bring home the bacon and fry it up in a pan. I’m glad I am one!

Work. We’ve been doing it since The Fall – I wonder what we’d be doing if Eve, AND ADAM WITH HER, hadn’t fallen for the bait of Satan. I cannot imagine life without our work.
I have worked since I was 14 – minding my niece, working in the home, raising kids, running a household. After my life shattered in 1978, I began working outside the home but with all the in-home responsibilities too! WORK…it never goes away.
It gets easier OR harder, but it is ever-present in our lives. AS IT WAS INTENDED by the Creator of the Universe. His perfect plan was thwarted and He declared, “WORK!”
Parents, teach your children to WORK – I don’t care how old they are – give them a job, a task, a chore; BUT LET THEM WORK. I know how messy doing dishes or making biscuits can be when a three-year old does it – but LET THEM. I see kids now-a-days that will not do a dang thing nor do they KNOW HOW to do anything. It is a sin and a shame.
TEACH YOUR CHILDREN TO WORK – they’re going to have to sooner or later, so sooner the better. My adult kids have a strong work ethic and I am grateful.
Funny thing is, THE WORD statesĀ if a person doesn’t work? They don’t eat. It’s in there folks, read it for yourself. We are not doing anyone a justice by doing for them.
Don’t just give them a fish – TEACH THEM HOW TO FISH.
Truth then. Truth now.

Susan, you have brought such wise truth. And joining you in praying for the safety of all this weekend. xo
Thank you Joanne. Wrote from my heart today. Deep.
Susan,
Yes, God gives each of us work to do! I always had my kids following along with me, cooking, cleaning, and doing the laundry. I think it helped them, but it’s also some of my favorite memories! Work can be a JOY also!
If we make it a joy, it surely can be!!!
Wisdom!
Wisdom 101 – I’m a professor!!!
Good one!
XO
We should write tag team.
Susan, such wise words about work. I totally agree. I have worked, since I was twelve. Love you my friend. Diana
And now you can enjoy retirement. Just a retread in the seasons of life.
Yes and Amen! I think we live in a culture that often does it for them because we think it is easier in the moment… but in the long run, they need to know how to do it on their own! Every moment is a teaching moment and if we teach the value of work, they learn the value of rest as well!
Praying with you!
xoxo
Now, what a good point THAT is you wise Mimi (almost).
Susan, you’re right on! As a teacher, I have seen such a tremendous relationship between the success of students who have chores at home versus the struggles of those children who have no responsibilities at home. Teaching our children to work is a GIFT, it’s not a punishment!
Developing a work ethic is vital. Great post!
A ways past really ill as I write this, and in the preamble I read “Eve and Adam Whittier…”
Adam Whittier? Who’s HE?
XOXOXOWaggyWaggyWOOF!
Oh, amen, and amen! Teaching your kids to work is a blessing to everyone your kids will every work with!
TRUTH.
