Kate said, “WHO.”
Good word prompt for a five minute write especially after working weeks and weeks on our family memoir with my sister. WHO, happens to be celebrating her birthday today! Happy and blessed day, Sestra.
There are so many WHO’s in my story. Those WHO influenced my life greatly.
Number one in that group would be my Grandma Emily. She was the one WHO had the boldness and the love to set me straight as a 33-year old newly single Mom in a relationship.
On her death bed in a Charlotte, North Carolina, hospital she told me straight.
My prayers were like sounding brass on a ceiling of solid metal.
She was right, you know?
She loved me with TRUTH.
She loved me with Jesus’ kind of love. He didn’t just love people and left them to their own wiles. He loved them enough to send them away healed and whole.
Go, and sin no more.
Go, and tell no one.
Go, you are healed and your sins forgiven you.
Jesus, was THAT kind of Truth-teller.
The kind I want to be.
WHO is your WHO?
This past week’s Write 31 Days five minute free writes:
I always think of Horton when I see the word “who”! That one that speaks into me most on my birthday last year and this year is Holy Spirit. I always hear that whisper. Sometimes I want to wear earplugs because He always hits the nail on the head.
And of course earthly people too are my who…my BFF’s, my Sister, my hubby. On these latest birthdays however, I find myself being someone else’s WHO! Who are you Who too?
Yes, we definitely become other’s “who.”
I am so very grateful for each “who” God has placed in my life over the years. Each one uniquely helped my faith to grow more deeply. And like you, my Gram played an important role in pointing me to loving God’s Word.
Grandma’s are so very, very instrumental in our lives.
My thoughts keep going to that song by the Who, a band and song I never much cared for but it sticks with me like an ear worm 😉 – ‘who are you, who, who?’ To go with your take on the prompt, my granny was also an important who in my life. She didn’t have much of an education but she started every morning reading her bible. She knew enough to know she needed Jesus and He called her his own.
And, your granny had more than enough then!
So glad you had a grandma Emily in your life. It was my grandmother who also impacted me in my relationship with Jesus. Thank you, Lord for grandmas.
Debbie, I echo your comment!
My ‘who’ is Squadron leader Philip Hunter, RAF, and CO of 264 Squadron at the beginning of the Battle of Britain.
When asked what he felt about facing the might of the Luftwaffe using the hopelessly outclassed Boulton-Paul Defiant two-seat fighter, he replied,
“we are in the place of honour, and we must accept it.”
He was killed.
Wow.
I love this… and you… and the Truth (Who is the most important Who!)
xoxo
And, all the “who’s” who live, teach, and share the greatest Who, which is Truth. That’s Who! Whew!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am also thankful for so many Who’s in my life–truth speakers and grace givers. I see even more as I get older the gifts they truly were. Thank you for sharing truth from your heart!
The older I get the more appreciative. Amen!
My momma! She’s my truth teller. Not in the ways you’d imagine but through who she is and how she lives despite living with a mental illness.
Tara, you honor your Momma so very well. You will live a long life!
Susan… I really enjoyed your WHO.
Thank you, Melissa!
