Believe it or not, I didn’t even step foot in the party last night – I’m not sure why but I didn’t want to. This morning I popped in to see the word prompt Kate Motaung had chosen for the Five Minute Friday free write and I promise I didn’t read her post or any others either! I wanted to but I resisted the urge. Once I read what someone else writes, somehow it ‘taints’ me!!! I see the word and I have to mull it around for several minutes before I know where I want it to take me. It’s a word we use a lot. It’s a word children love to dramatize, especially when shopping or watching television. It’s a short word with a powerful message. Is your curiosity triggered? Do you want to know what it is? I’ve already used the word four times in this paragraph!
I want it.
Do you want it or need it?
Is it necessary or you just want it?
What is it that you want?
I want for nothing.
It’s no secret I am over sixty years old – age is no big deal to me. And, of course it is one of those things regardless of what you want, it is what it is!
When I saw this word prompt, WANT, I immediately thought of our brother in the faith, Paul. Remember, he said something like, “Whether with or without, I’ve learned to be content.” I’m not sure if the word WANT is even in that passage anywhere but it’s the very first thought that came to me.
I like things – in fact just last week I ordered two things I wanted from Magnolia Market. I liked them, wanted them, ordered them.
Yes, I definitely could have lived without them – but it was that “want” thing.
WANTing is dangerous I think. It stirs things up. It can be the prelude to:
If this, then that…
As I type I am deeply convicted. Truly there are two items on my list of wants. REAL WANTS.
To hear and know that my children walk in Truth. 3 John 4
To know Christ fully and to one day see His glorious face.
Everything else? Bonuses! Extras!
What is your true WANT?
