I believe I’m one of the elders in the room when I join Kate Motaung’s congregation on Five Minute Friday’s – and bearing that title gives me a different slant on the words she pulls out of the hat each week. Today’s word (for me) is quite a challenge. What on earth can you say about a little tiny three-letter word used every single day at least 19 times! But being a team player I’m going to do my best and…
Here’s where the age thing comes in. The very first thing I thought of was the Alka-Seltzer commercial circa 1972 with the guy in the restaurant selecting his food…”Try it you’ll like it…” And, of course there lied the problem. He tried it and it didn’t agree with his stomach so he took Alka-Seltzer. You can watch the youtube here.
Try…at 60+ I’m willing to try just about anything. I don’t want to just talk about doing something – I want to TRY it. Then, I’ll know if I like it. The next thing on my list, and I can’t even believe I haven’t done it yet, is white water rafting. It is possible before this summer season is over I will don the vest, and work my arm muscles like they’ve never been worked before. I am very excited and anxious to TRY this sport.
You know God even tells us to TRY something. He says it in a way that says TEST it. TRY IT. He even goes so far as to say TRY ME IN THIS and see if I don’t do thus and so. And, you know what context He uses that word “TRY”? When it ***five minutes is up*** but I’m finishing anyway…
He uses the phrase “TRY ME” in relation to our monetary giving. YIKE$! Now, God, don’t go me$$ing with my wallet. That’$ per$onal $pace!!! Hmm.
Bring all the tithes into the storehouse,
That there may be food in My house,
And try Me now in this,”
Says the Lord of hosts,
“If I will not open for you the windows of heaven
And pour out for you such blessing
That there will not be room enough to receive it. Malachi 3.10
God Himself actually encourages us to test Him – the God of the Universe challenges us in such a personal way. I don’t know about you, but I’m willing to trust Him in even “THIS.”
Who wouldn’t want the windows of heaven to pour out His blessings! Are you willing to try?
