I missed the party Thursday night – we were in a hotel room in Lynchburg, Virginia and rather exhausted so instead of partying I watched multiple episodes of Flip Flop on HGTV as my daughter and grandson soundly slept. Where was Hannah, you ask? Spending her first night in her dorm room at Liberty University. I am certain Kate Motaung knew this as she chose the FMF word prompt today for the five minute Friday free write – I was wondering if Hannah was having a good … TIME!
I’m going to set the clock BUT I know I’ll run over – I’m calling it grandmother privilege…
Perhaps some of you are familiar with the old Harry Chapin song, “Cat’s in the Cradle.” I remember the TIME, my hubs and I sat in the now-gone Palm Beach Auditorium and saw Harry in concert. I can see him sitting in the rocking chair, with his guitar, strumming and singing this tune. It’s a song about a father who missed out on his son growing up because he was too busy out “making it” in the world called career. The words of the song are filled with the father’s regrets. It is filled with if-only’s and what-if’s. It is a sad song and sadder still if it spoke of Harry’s life – because not long after that concert, Mr. Chapin died in a car crash. Not sure why this song comes to mind as I write – because, it is Croce’s song that truly resonates with the word prompt…
Jim Croce sings, “if I could put time in a bottle”, contain it, hold on to it, and never let it go.
Would wishes always come true?
This past week we saw a wish come true.
A prayer answered.
A dream into reality.
We saw time stretch over 19 years, as we walked Hannah down the hall of The Hill with boxes and crates and gold polka-dots and flat-irons and books and laptop and…you get it…it was TIME – the prayers of MANY had been laid at the throne room of heaven and our good, good Father had answered…
Her TIME had come.
As we ate lunch on Thursday I found myself saying the same things to her as I had said to my youngest son upon him leaving the nest…
Mimi’s Growing Up Life 101 class is over – I have poured every bit of myself into you. We’ve covered a lot of ground over the years. Now,
It is your TIME to shine!
Our cat’s out of the cradle and her time is in the tea cup, as her Mimz’ I have NO regrets of investing my time into her life!!!
