I peeked in at 9:47 p.m. and saw that Kate said:
Kate chose “simplify” as this week’s word prompt. I’ve noted this word in several social media feeds as being a favored oneword2018.
What exactly does it mean to simplify one’s life?
verb. to make something simpler or easier to do or understand
How does one simplify their life?
Does one have to be a minimalist to simplify?
Does one have to clear off the creative clutter on the desk surface to simplify?
Does one need three planners, three sets of colored markers, and various stickers, tabs, and highlighters?
We are encouraged to live simply, yet at the same time pushed to keep 6 journals, write morning pages, night pages, and pages in-between.
I do notice beautiful clean surfaces on my Instagram feed and my eye is drawn to the white kitchens and beautifully upholstered couches with immaculately groomed Labradoodles lounging prettily looking out a pristinely cleaned bay window at a perfect view. I can only imagine how UNsimple it was to capture that photo shot!
I’ve tried all of the above and it just doesn’t work for me and heavens if I had tried doing these things while raising three kids, working a full-time job and living life? My kids would be neurotic adults trying to achieve Lord only knows what.
Perhaps simplifying is as simple as Paul instructed the church at Thessalonica…
Make it your goal to live a quiet life, minding your own business and working with your hands, just as we instructed you before. 1 Thessalonians 4.11
