Last night’s Five Minute Friday party was good. There were a few serious prayer requests, talk of 40 below 0 temps (yikes!), science project, college assignments, and then the word prompt! Kate Motaung wasn’t feeling real well, and word-bombed us! Okay, so the word is PRESENT. Now, is that a noun, idiom, or a verb (transitive or not?) or an adjective (prenominal or postpositive)? This Five Minute Friday challenge gets real y’all!!! I am not an English scholar and this word causes a great quandary for me – I believe I’ll go with …
Present, the adjective;
Have you ever been with someone that isn’t “present”…you know, they aren’t engaged in the conversation or they seem bored or distracted, or… I have a friend, her name is Margie and although we don’t see one another often, when we do – she is there. You know what I mean? She is PRESENT. She listens to every word you say, and comments back. She doesn’t get up to put a load of clothes in the dryer or put away dishes. I’m not even sure she excuses herself to use the restroom when I visit. She is present.
I want to be like that when someone comes to visit me. I don’t want to be distracted – and o! I am so easily distracted. You would think I had ants in my pants or something. This is an area I am truly working on…paying attention. Enjoy the sitting, the visiting – not wanting to get up and do the next thing – I want to be present.
Our good, good (heavenly) Father is always present when we call on him. He never turns His ear away; never takes a nap; even if He’s paying attention to someone else’s problems! He makes sure He is present for me – He takes the time to listen.
Does He know you?
