What a great word for the best week of the summer! I do like the week of 4th of July. Seems long and stretched out like the long, warm, languishing days of summer. You know, those lazy, hazy, crazy days of sodas and pretzels and beer! (Root beer, that is!)
We spent the weekend in Statesville at my daughter and SIL’s home, we spent a lot of time “porchin’.” Simon on the guitar. Hannah singing. And, the rest of us trying to sing on key and remember the words. The hammock offered an afternoon nap so I gladly accepted. It was true Sabbath Rest. We had a surprise and two long-time friends from our South Florida days of teens hanging out in our ‘open door’ home were there and it was such a delight.
Monday morning, 14-year old Simon was looking for something ‘fun’ to do – we got out the bicycles and the grands and I took, what I felt was long, a bike ride. Now, Statesville is flat EXCEPT when pedaling a standard bike! I did have to walk it a couple of places. When we got home, we were hot and sweaty.
Which led to the next fun thing to do. The grands and I did a little shopping online and then headed over to Walmart and bought a large, blow-up, on summer clearance backyard swimming pool. With Hannah at the wheel, Simon shotgun, and Mimz’ in the backseat, we headed home. One of them mentioned a milkshake would taste good – to which I said, “Let’s go to Chick Fil A!” The drive-thru line was long but oh so worth it when we all took that first sip of our peach shakes! Of course, we ordered lunch too!
As we headed out into traffic and toward home Simon said, “Mimz, you’re so fun – you really know how to live in the moment.”
I think he meant…
I play well!
