What do Gilmore Girls, West Wing, brownie-in-a-mug, hot fudge cake, and Thursday have in common? You guessed right! Five Minute Friday Party at Kate Motaung‘s place, well, she actually rents a room at Twitter.com – standing room only last night, I couldn’t keep up nor type fast enough to fully engage. It’s hard to come up with one-word, unforgettable comments! I am convinced those 45 and under have fingers more adept than mine for keying on small devices!!! Last night? I almost felt too old to be there. Kind of like a square peg in a roomful of round slots. I’ll give you an example, and I may make enemies on this one. Take conversation about the long-running sitcom, Gilmore Girls. I binge-watched two seasons of this show to find out what I was missing and I didn’t like it at all – the agenda was far too liberal for me; the humor too dry and cocky, and I found it insulting. Like I said, square peg in a round hole!
Moving on. I find Kate’s word prompt extremely difficult to write on this morning. But write I will because I have learned, as in all things, this too shall…

Jesus did a lot of passing through while He walked earth. And wherever He passed through lives were changed.
In John 4 He “had to” pass through Samaria – Samaria was considered a less-than place, Jews loathed Samaritans. But the day Jesus passed by, something radical took place in the life of a woman. A Samaritan woman no less. Jesus was hanging out at the well, the center of activity for women at a very hot time of day, He had sent His disciples to fetch some food. A woman came to the well when no one else was there, because she was “THAT” kind of woman. She learned how worthy she was, the day Jesus PASSed by.
In John 9 Jesus was PASSing by again, somewhere, and He spotted a man – a blind man – unbeknownst to the blind man his day was about to change – his life was about to be transformed, literally from darkness into life. I love what the man said when questioned,
I don’t know WHO or WHAT this Man is, all I know is the day he PASSed by I was blind and NOW I CAN SEE.!
Jesus did so much good as He PASSed through.
Don’t let Him PASS YOU BY – stop Him.
Receive Him.
He’ll change your life in the PASSing…

Love this! One of my favorite concepts is that “it came to pass….” I want to make sure I don’t miss anything. I might just try one of these twitter parties one of these quiet evenings. I appreciate all you do.
Karen, the parties are fast and furious. Hard for me to keep up!! But fun.
Would love to have you join us on Twitter, Karen! Just follow the hashtag #fmfparty on Thursday evenings and jump in! 😉 I share the Five Minute Friday prompt from @k8motaung. Hope to see you there! 😉
I had a tough time with the word PASS too. But what a wonderful thought you have brought! It just isn’t the same when He passes through. Beautiful 🙂 It’s amazing what these prompts bring to us!
He CHANGES everything, Alice!!!
Okay, I’m with you on Gilmore Girls! In fact, I find myself “pass”ing on a lot of TV these days!
Good post; love how you ran with it!
Hey, Shelb’, you think it’s our age?
I miss the Twitter parties 🙁 I don’t do them well, but the ichat tool makes it easier to follow. I’m the square peg in the round hole too…older than 30 something and not much t.v. in our house, although we do watch reruns on MeTV….that’s about my speed, lol.
I love your take on pass… spot on lady!
Christy, thank you for telling me that. We square pegs have to stick together!!!
Oh Christy & Susan, FMF wouldn’t be the same without you two! And I, for one, certainly don’t feel as if you are square pegs at all! You bring so much to the community, and we thank God for both of you! Thanks for being here again this week!
Kate, you are most kind!!! xo
I’m with you on the Gilmore Girl thing. I did the same thing. I think my daughter and I got to the third season and it’s just annoying. They keep making the same mistakes and don’t learn from their previous mess-up’s. I’ve given up on it even though I have friends who say I have to stay with it because it gets better….. BUT it’s a tv show and I have better things to do with my time than waste in on writers who can’t get their characters to grow up and make a wise choice! (Just my opinion! 🙂 ) I couldn’t “pass” up on the opportunity to share mine! 😉 Have a great Friday! (Stopping by from FMF # 33)
Opinions always welcome here!
So much THIS: “Jesus did so much good as He PASSed through.” Jesus did indeed pass through and change so many lives as he passed by. Oh and it’s ok if you didn’t like Gilmore Girls, we still love you! 🙂 I’m over in the #5 spot this week.
Thank you online daughter!!!
I wouldn’t call you a square peg, but I love your presence on Twitter … you’re such an encouragement. xoxo
Thank you Kristin, you are kind!
If it makes you feel any better I’ve never even watched Gilmore Girls (and I’m only in my 30s)! I love the examples you picked out of how Jesus passed by and transformed people.
Carly, radically transformed!!!
Hey my friend… you are not a square peg –nor are you too old to be at the party! And you don’t have to love Gilmore Girls (or Nutella…) to be part of the tribe! You love Jesus… and that comes through loud and clear!
And this: “Don’t let Him PASS YOU BY – stop Him. Receive Him. He’ll change your life in the PASSing…” Well now, that is golden!!!
I love you (still!) 😉
~K~
Laughing…thank you, Ms. K – love you to the moon. Looking forward to that table Tara wrote about today!!! xo
Yes, what Karrilee said ^^ 😉
I absolutely love you even though you don’t like “Gilmore Girls!” There are parts of the show that I don’t enjoy, especially as I get older. Nevertheless, there’s a huge nostalgia element for me. Rory and I are exactly the same age. I watched the show through high school and college.
Anyway, you hit on two of my favorite passages in the John. The man born blind – I identify with him, for I was born without sight in my right eye. I know for a fact that God has used this to enable me to see Him in ways I’d otherwise miss. And the woman at the well? Oh, man. I’m her. Jesus sees all my junk and invites me into His house anyway. He is a good, good Lord!
I’ve been “her” longer!!! Thank you, Marie.
Love where you took this prompt! And the story at the well is one of my favorites because God has engraved a verse from it on my heart: the need to worship Him as ourselves. When God passes us (and He does every day), we are so incredibly blessed! I know that I too often let Him pass me by without acknowledgement though…which is where the prompt took me this week.
Ah…jumping over, Anna, to read your words.
It’s so easy to pass people by, but by his very example, Jesus wants us to pause and look and listen and ask ourselves what we could do for the least of these.
Anita, I think you and I are in the same camp – but we’re learning, sister, aren’t we???
Susan,
wow, and you think I went deep? You went all the way into the well and the eyes of the blind.
And my trick to Twitter party? Desktop computer. My thumbs are way too large to keep up. (And Siri is terrible at interpreting my conversations-HA!)
I loved how it all swirled together.
Gilmore Girls was probably just after I graduated college and lost my “free” cable TV. I’ve not looked back. The ladies are beautiful, but I’ll have to admit I’m more of a book-in-hand type of person.
That’s why I’m so excited for summer. I can catch up on the books I couldn’t read this school year.
Thank you for being a light and an encouragement to me, Susan. I don’t feel any gap between us. Age is only a matter of human measurement. God looks at the heart. 🙂
I’ve been an “on-my-own-two-feet” believer since Spring 2000, so I’m really 16. 😉
Love,
Tammy

Well then, I am really 24. I like your math, math teacher!!! xo
