This is the day a room full of writers participate in the five-minute challenge, over at Kate Motaung’s place. A one word prompt. No proofreading, no edits, just five minutes of free writing. Today’s word is…
Have you ever been given “notice”? As in, “You are no longer needed here – in two weeks your job is terminated.”
I have – twice.
First time was in South Florida when I worked for Donald Trump, (yes, HIM), he had bought the twin-tower condominium where I worked. Great job, too. I was Admin Assistant to the property manager and we basically ran the place – we were over about 25 employees and the job was prestigious and profitable. But, oh man, when the Trump Troupe came in all hell broke loose. They are HORRIBLE to work for. After I was called a name that I wouldn’t ever say or repeat I was given NOTICE. I’ve never been so happy to walk out of a position – with a great severance package to boot!
Second time was here in North Carolina. I was the assistant to the President/CEO of a small manufacturing company – the owners sold to a big conglomerate. They gave me and about 350 other people…NOTICE. Time to go, folks, we are moving the plant up north. No more jobs. I felt sad leaving that position – but, again, the severance package was a comfort!
NOTICE. I don’t like getting notices – but each time the Lord had something else in mind. I love my acronym, G.A.K.A.T. God Already Knew About This. He always has my back and even though I got the proverbial NOTICE – His provision sustained me.
