No partying for me last night! Kate Motaung and the Five Minute Friday crew gathered while I crashed! I find out she said…

This week I have honored some of the women in my life: my daughter, my sister, and my own mum on Quietude this Sonday. So today I am going to do my five-minute free write on ME!
Being a mom has been one incredible trip! After trip. After trip! My 3-M’s have caused me to shed at least a million tears and made me laugh enough times to fill the Grand Canyon with continuous echo for a million years!
Our years together navigating a fatherless home were some of our best work. We learned to count on one another and serve one another, whether we wanted to or not. We leaned hard on one another and after several years we all stand strong.
I learned I could bring home the bacon and fry it up in a pan (my theme commercial from the 80’s)
I taught my youngest how to spot aluminum cans from his bike seat and hold tight to the garbage bag as we collected recyclable goods to buy a bagful of groceries. 10 potpies for a dollar and a bag of rice, a head of iceberg lettuce and a tomato: we made that feast.
Middle son soon learned the art of mowing and being sure there were garbage cans at the curb on Monday and Thursday.
My eldest and my only girl held down the fort after school until I got home from work.
We were a team and we were strong. Of course, there were epic Mom fails. Years after when I try to apologize for this or that? They don’t even remember what I’m talking about – the good far outweighs the bad.
1985 Beach Trip to Sanibel Island – one of our favorite times!
Today, I showcase ME – and to the age-old question the chick asked of every breathing creature he could find, “Are You My Mother?”
Yes, children o’ mine I am and you make it fun!

Happy Mother’s Day, Susan! Such beautiful faces! They learned to make it fun because their mom made it fun! xo
Joanne, there were Times of trauma and sorrow but we sure tried to turn the lemons to lemonade. We didn’t have two nickels to rub together but God was faithful even when I wasn’t. Just like Him, right?
You are a great mom! I’m over in the 7 spot this week.
Hey squirrely girlie bless you!!!!
Great post. It sounds like you did well mom!

THANK YOU Cathy.
Too cute! I love Are You My Mother! It’s one of my favorite read alouds (especially when I read it out loud to my Spanish classes 😉 ). It’s funny how the hard times make us stronger when there’s plenty of love to go around. And it looks like you provided plenty of love (as evidenced by the fact that your kids only remember the good times). May God continue to bless your motherhood journey!
That book and “The Best Nest” are my two all-time favorites!
This was a fun read! I do think we moms set the tone in a family, and it sounds like you managed to make life fun in spite of some challenges. A wonderful example to your brood. Happy Mother’s Day!
I Love this picture of y’all! My favorite, and I love y’all!!
Love this picture! I too made a ton of mistakes and always felt so bad that my kids had to go through the breakup of our family. They really do remember the good and minimize the bad. God is good to give us children that love us
They really do, Patti, and we need to learn how to forget those “fails”.
Susan, I absolutely love this! You are an amazing mom and I know your kids are happy you are theirs. Oh, and I love that cute book call “Are You My Mother?” I’ve read it countless times to children and grandchildren. 🙂
Blessings to you!
Gayl, thank you. I am blessed with good memories.
Happy Mothers’ Day, Susan, and thank you so much for this glimpse into your warm and loving heart.
Thanks buddy!
This is great. It’s good to celebrate yourself as a mom — to look back at the memories you made and to rejoice in where you and your family are today. You are blessed, and best of all you know it. Happy Mother’s Day!
Jeannie (sitting at #39 in FMF this week)
Thanks for confirming it, Jeannie!
Susan, I loved catching a glimpse into your life as a mom and the ways you empowered them. None of us is immune to a difficult season and learning to navigate through is a significant skill. You taught them well while providing the security they longed for as children.
Steph’…I sure hope so.
Happy Mother’s Day! Hope it was a good one!
Katha, it was a wonderful day! Thank you!
