Kate said MERCY
noun: compassion or forgiveness shown toward someone whom it is within one’s power to punish or harm.
Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. 1 Chronicles 16.34
Not to be confused with grace:
The free and unmerited favor of God, as manifested in the salvation of sinners and the bestowal of blessings.
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. Ephesians 2.8-9
As parents, we show mercy every single day. When a child does something, which should be rewarded with punishment not accolades, we discipline with mercy. I spanked my children – with mercy – no need to call child services, all three of them are over 40 and responsible adults.
He has extended His mercy to me over and over and over. My season on the detour deserved great punishment – but He showed me mercy. Yes, I still live with the consequences of those wrong choices, yet, His mercy is without measure.
Calvary is the Mingling of Mercy and Grace
The Lord Jesus Christ, the Beloved Son of Almighty God, in His earth suit, died the most torturous death on Calvary – His death offers forgiveness of sin, compassion of great price, and an eternal promise of being together with Him – AT NO COST TO US. Mercy + Grace!
