Kate said ‘loyal’ again – she handed us this word prompt on August 26, 2016 – almost two years ago to the day! I find that rather interesting. I wrote about it here. Everything in that post remains except our beloved loyal furry friend Sam. He went to heaven one month ago, suddenly, on July 24th. He died from acute kidney toxicity caused from Carry-Out dog treats – never, never, never, never feed those to your pets. That is all I can say about it here – Sam’s passing is still too sad and raw for us.
Let’s see what I can say new about the word LOYAL.
One of the most beautiful examples of loyalty in The Word is found in the Old Testament Book of Ruth. I’ve written about Ruth, Naomi, The House of Bread to the House of Dead, many times in my writing life.
But, loyal Ruth.
All was gone. She was barren. Moab was barren. Naomi was barren. The only one who ‘seemed’ to make the right choice was Orpah – she chose to stay home to try to make her life work. It seemed to make perfect sense.
Naomi was determined to return to Bethlehem, empty of heart and purse; Ruth was determined to remain loyal and return with her.
Ruth’s loyalty was rewarded in ways over and beyond anything Naomi thought was possible.
Jesus Christ, years and years later.
The Book of Ruth is only a short read, but one quite worthy of a few minutes of your time. You can read it here.
Loyalty is a fine trait – one I aspire to.
