Last night was our annual Friends’ Christmas Dinner night – five girlfriends rally husbands and we meet in town for dinner. Yesterday was also Hannah’s day to come up to our home for a movie marathon of Anne of Green Gables. We’ve been planning it for months. She is finished with her first semester of classes at Community College, where she…..drum roll please…made three A’s and one B, and next month will find her at Liberty University studying her heart out! Yes, we are proud of her!
We got home about nine and I quickly popped in to the Twitter party for Five Minute Friday and the host, Kate Motaung, threw us a curve! The word prompt? There wasn’t one, she told us to choose a word and write on it. A room full of writers and no one knew what to write on, tweets were flying, “Give me a word,” Tara tweeted from Minot, North Dakota (yes, people really live in ND!!!), *I quickly replied to her with, “GIFT – now give me one.” She tweeted back…
Timer is set: 00:00
I remember many years ago I was walking along the side of our country road, admiring the day and talking to the Lord. Just random chatting. Our business was in a bit of a tight place and I was asking the Lord to show us what to do and what not to do – it was my longing for the business to be a success for my husband. It was a fly-fishing retail business and guide service. My hubs wasn’t technically a “pro” but unofficially, “pro” fit him well. The Lord and I were also talking about some other carnal things that I longed for – nothing bad, mind you, but certainly not critical to one’s health or well-being. Things like a new front porch and maybe a new kitchen floor!!! We walked together for about three miles and on my way back home I clearly remember looking up at the stunningly clear and crisp December sky, I stopped in my tracks and said out loud for the grazing cattle to hear as my witness to the plea I gave my Father that day…
But, Father, all of these things, all of these requests and wishes pale in comparison to the sincere desire of my heart…I HAVE NO GREATER JOY THAN TO HEAR THAT MY CHILDREN WALK IN TRUTH. (3 John 4)
Today? At least 20 years later, it is still the cry and beat of my heart.
There is no greater JOY than to hear that my children and grandchildren walk in Truth – Jesus, You are The Way, The Truth, and The Life.
What is your JOY?
*I note this morning that Tara chose someone else’s word prompt of “fuzzy” – can’t wait to read it!
