Kate said HOLD
You’ve got to know when to hold ’em
Know when to fold ’em
Know when to walk away
And know when to run…[Lyrics by Don Schlitz – Sung by Kenny Rogers]
When I see a word my first thought is usually a tune from somewhere in my past! I’m not a gambler but I am a sinner saved by grace. #formerbadgirl and these four lines could certainly apply to sin! Amen?
Walk Away
I have learned the very best way to avoid doing something you KNOW you shouldn’t? WALK AWAY. This even applies to social media. I get so tempted to say something in this heated political climate – sometimes? I just have to walk away from my computer or lay my phone down.
Run!
I should have so many times in my past – regrets? Absolutely! But, it’s good to remember because I NEVER WANT TO GO BACK TO MY OLD LIFE.
Hold!
- never hold a grudge
- never hold a hot pan without a mitt
- never hold onto worthless stuff
- always hold on to hope
- always hold on to the Promises of God
- always hold, without wavering between right and wrong – CHOOSE right because it’s always right!
Today…
I am holding on to this…
…being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ…Philippians 1.6
I like how you covered soo many aspects of the word “hold”. There are definitely times when it is good to hold on and other times when we just have to walk away!
Amen, right?
Walking away is REALLY hard. Last night in Bible study we discussed how to love our enemies. I really think sometimes all we can do is walk away from them, like you mentioned for social media. If we can’t find any good to do to someone, at least we can avoid doing something hurtful. It’s a start, at least.

It IS a start. I agree, Amie.
I’m also holding onto Phil 1:6. I like that you covered so many perspectives of “hold”. Knowing when to walk away or run is also very important.
Wemi, is this world? It sure is.
Your thought on walking away from heated debates was something I needed to read today. Ouch! And thank you! (Karen, FMF #7)
I “ouch” all day long, Karen. YIKES!!!!
I remember one debate
(I just could not resist),
after which opponent’s fate
was to meet my fist,
for I did not like to lose,
but had little smarts,
and matched unto a real short fuse,
well, that’s how trouble starts,
for, yeah, I won the ‘argument’,
but that’s not how it ends,
for fellow debater went
and rounded up some friends,
and I learned in this dynamic school
that ’twas best to keep my cool.
Or, keep your big mouth shut!!!! LOL!!!
All of this is so RIGHT on target and like you said Choose
Right its always right. Then when I read Philippians 1:6 The tears began to flow and the spirit came over me. No details just know its good.
Amen, right? O! Carol, I love when He shows up like that.
Beautiful post. I loved that song! And I love your photo- that is what made me choose to read this. That and the leading of the Holy Spirit.

Terri D – what an encouraging comment.
Great minds think alike! That song popped into my head, too :). I love your list of things to not hold on to :).
You ole Kenny Rogers fan, you!!!!!
I am slowly learning to walk away as I get older . I am glad it is a continuous work in us until the end from one former bad girl to another x fmf#6
Loretta? I think it’s a big club. Thank YOU LORD FOR GRACE!!!!!
Love your HOLD list.
Thanks for sharing.

Hey Sandra!!! I didn’t get to read yours. Going there now!
Love this! Such peace and freedom in walking away, especially when we have the hope that He gives us. Thank you Jesus!
YES!
great thoughts.
I’m already praying about my ONE WORD for 2021. I believe it’s going to be “Confident” with PHilippians 1:6 as a theme verse. Confident keeps coming up in my studies and God has been dealing with my fearful heart about these elections. I am confident that God is in control and no matter what happens, He’s got this!
I hear you sister. WE CANNOT ALLOW THE ENEMY ANY EMPTY SPACES. Praying for God to PIERCE THE DARKNESS and SHINE HIS GLORIOUS LIGHT on all lies, evil, deception and wrong.
