No party for me last night. The Five Minute Friday party went on without me! I have a very special house-guest and we watched the replay of Survivor – after a fun afternoon playing tourist in West Jefferson NC. I hadn’t taken on the role of tour guide in years and it was a pleasurable adventure. We went atop Mount Jefferson and played Moses as it was a foggy day and the 4,665′ elevation was shrouded in clouds. We sat in the silence of St. Mary’s Church and listened to the story of Ben Long’s Fresco paintings. Then downtown for some shopping, we enjoyed slunch (combo of supper and lunch), a few antique shoppes, and a lesson in honeybees! A wonderful afternoon on a dreary day. We topped it off with Survivor!
Kate Motaung, host of FMF, announced the word at 9:45 p.m. and I surely didn’t EXPECT it!
The teenaged son all grown up on Grandfather Mountain – May 2016
Funny Kate chose the word EXPECT tonight because my friend and I had been encouraging one another all afternoon with scriptures and as we drove down from Mount Jefferson I was sharing an experience I had had in 1995-6 with my youngest, then teenaged, son. He was beginning to dabble in trouble – a really good boy all his 16-17 years and bam, eleventh grade. I remember one day I had to take a mental health day from work to be home, to seek the Lord, to pull myself together – I didn’t want to go through another mom-fail. I put Breath of God on the cd player and listened to the words of The Word set to music. My faith began to build and clearly, the Lord told me what to do. I got out the extra virgin olive oil and headed upstairs to his bedroom. I laid hands on everything in that room, praying, and anointing with oil. My faith was exploding by this time and as I left his room, I took my oily finger and left a print over the door on the dark pine door molding, exclaiming, “He’s YOUR’S Lord, do what You must.”
As I got back in the dining room and within ear shot of the cd player, I heard this…
O! my soul! Don’t be discouraged. Don’t be upset. EXPECT God to act! … He is my Help! He is my God! (Psalm 42.11 TSB)
P.S. Holy Spirit just showed me: EXPECT is synonymous with HOPE – and remember, HOPE changes everything!
