Excuses Change Futures
Do you remember the Bible story about the rich, young ruler? It can be found here. He made an excuse, which changed his future and his eternity. AND, I’m sure it was an excuse he is still thinking about two thousand years later.
Looking at him, Jesus showed love to him and said to him, “One thing you lack: go and sell all you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” 22 But he was deeply dismayed by these words, and he went away grieving; for he was one who owned much property. Mark 10.21-22
A Feeble Excuse
Rich, the young rich ruler, used such a feeble excuse. I own a lot of property so I can’t follow you, Jesus.
He was a wise, obedient young man. He honored his parents. He followed Torah. But, the one thing Jesus asked him to do, he could not do.
Go, sell all your earthly goods and give to the poor, and follow Me – and, when you do that? Your treasure will be in heaven.
If Rich had done that? He would have been rewarded 100 times over – he would never have looked back. But you see, his excuse was he couldn’t imagine living “without.” O! Rich, you made such a huge, bad decision.
What’s Our Excuse?
Some people think they have to clean up to be born anew. Some think their sin is too big or bad for God to forgive. Some think later on they will follow Him.
I had an excuse way back in 1982 – I was hurt. I was devastated. I was mad at God. He supplied so much grace but one day, He stood over me and said, “No more excuses, Susan. Choose me now.” I did and I have NEVER regretted it for one moment.
Do You Have An Excuse?
There’s no real excuse for this.
