Cancel Thanksgiving? NO WAY. We are gathering with family and friends in South Florida – and I cannot wait. 2020 is not going to take Thanksgiving away from me. It is my absolute favorite holiday. Breaking bread with the people I love – YAY LORD! This year my husband and I have rented an Airbnb house with a pool. And, we have invited everyone! We told people bring a great big side dish and a pie! It’ll be grand.
Cancel Christmas? NO WAY. Don’t get me wrong, I like Christmas but not near as much as Thanksgiving. I like to savor the whole 31 days of Christmas and this year will be no exception. I am going to be reading Mary Geisen’s book, The Advent Narrative: The Life You Didn’t Know You Were Already Living. You can get the book on Amazon here. Or, drum roll please……
Enter the Giveaway!
That’s right – I am giving away ONE copy of Mary’s Advent book. You must comment below to enter and I’ll draw a name on Sunday evening, the 15th. I’ll get it right off in the mail to you so you can be ready on December 1st to dive in and make this December 2020 super meaningful.
I Met Mary…
Through Five Minute Friday – she was an active participant and we connected. Then, in 2015, we met in person at the ALLUME conference in Greenville, SC. We hit it off instantly. Mary is a super nice woman. She lives in Ohio, has two sons, two daughters-in-love, and one super cute grandboy, Jack. She is a Mimi, just like me! Mary is fun and loves to laugh – no wonder we connected!
Teaser…
Here’s the book review of Mary’s book I left on Goodreads and Amazon:
Growing up we didn’t pay too much attention to Advent. Our neighbors did – and we thought only “that” religion celebrated the Advent. Isn’t that so silly? As an adult, I personally love the journey to the cradle. And, then of course Lent takes us on the journey to the Cross. From Cradle to Cross – Jesus came, Jesus lived, Jesus died, Jesus resurrected and Jesus will return one day.
Mary teaches us to “listen” to the Advent Narrative – she is a writer with depth and she takes us to deep places.
“the Advent life is not a dead end but a journey with God toward a deeper knowledge and relationship with Him…”
The book is (almost) a poetic read and I highly recommend it to the one who wants ALL of December to whisper His name.
I gave it FIVE STARS, of course!!!
Are you all in?
Comment to be entered – and one of you will be greatly blessed by this good read!
Definitely participate in holidays!
Would like to read Mary’s book.
Jennifer, FMF friend
YES!!!
Hi Jenn! I would love for you to read my book. Hope you are doing well.
You are too kind. Meeting you was one of my favorite things at Allume in 2015. Do you remember that you were supposed to come to the FMF retreat with your daughter and you didn’t make it??
Thank you for giving away my book and for all of the ways you have worked to spread the message.
Mimi, my pleasure!!!
It sounds like you have a fun vacation planned! We can find ways to celebrate, no matter what, eh? We actually have school on Thanksgiving–the kiddos and their parents committed to leave them here from August 17 to December 4 so we could reopen. We won’t do classes as usual, though, we’re having our Thanksgiving Dinner and Annual Christmas party all rolled into one :).
And, having been there in real life – I can picture the entire celebration!! God bless you all!
You are gracious to promote other writer friends! Lovely! (Karen FMF #10)
We are a unique society, eh? #faithwritersunite!
I’ve been ALL about being with people and doing “stuff” throughout this so-called “house arrest” thing. It’s not healthy for people to keep isolated! PLUS we all should know where and who propagates the fear and he’s not our friend. This T.G. my husband works his shift at the golf course so we ordered our feast to go from a local restaurant. IF we knew his schedule we’d have participated with friends. BUT Christmas is coming! I love this time of year! The season of family, friends, food and lights and the promise of our savior!!
HE is the main show and the Shining Star!!! Thanks Liz!
what a fun Thanksgiving you all have planned! Enjoy!! Also the book sounds beautiful! Looking forward to starting your christmas devo too! This is gonna be a good advent 🙂
YES IT IS, Mariel, YES IT IS!
Mary’s book is wonderful and someone will surely be blessed in winning it. I am so grateful Thanksgiving cannot be cancelled as gratitude resides in our hearts. May we choose to rejoice and be grateful to our God.
Jo’ – we are always in agreement, aren’t me?
Our crowd will be small this year, but we are going to make it the best ever! We love Thanksgiving as well and there’s no way we cancel! Love the way you put this out there in a great review on the Advent book!
Thanks Sharon. Mary’s book is beautifully written.
They want to cancel holidays,
Thanksgiving, now, then Christmas,
and it really does amaze
me how some grant their wishes.
They say that we can demonstrate
maskless all the day,
but will harshly remonstrate
at gatherings to pray.
The Constitution says we’re free
to worship as we like,
so, I say, let’s take a knee,
and let ‘them’ take a hike,
for they win, as is well-known
when they make us feel that we’re alone.
They can all take a hike, as far as we’re concerned!!!
Great article!
Leeanne, thanks for coming over!
Amen Susan. Christmas will never be cancelled with Jesus as our savior. Yay!!! I don’t have many family members who get together for Thanksgiving, I spent many years alone on holidays. Now I have a friend in Christ, who has welcomed me into her family several years ago. I will be spending Thanksgiving with she and her family. I feel welcomed. And the fellowship is wonderful… Blessings Visit from FMF#8
I am so glad you have friends to fellowship with. (((xo)))
So much Yes and Amen and me too, of course!). Our Gov just announced last night that we should all cancel Thanksgiving and Christmas plans, too! (And my reaction was the same as yours —for the same reasons!)
Xoxo

And, once again, we are on the same page!!! Somehow that never really surprises me. LOL!
What a lovely way to describe an advent book that it will make every day in December whisper Christ’s name. It would be a delight to win this book.
Your thanksgiving plans also sound delightful.
Susan, you are in the drawing!!! Blessings lovely, Susan.
My Thanksgiving was not cancelled, even though I thought it would look differently this year, but my Wasband said that he couldn’t travel to pick up the kids for Thanksgiving. So, I am ecstatic that my children will be home with me this Thanksgiving! Thank you for sharing Susan. I am stopping by from the 31 days group.
Your wasband. YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love it!
😀 I also loved the little conversation that this sparked over on the 31 days Facebook page. 😀 I hope you have a lovely weekend!
Me too, Jolene, me too!
Oh yes, being a Brit we don’t really do thanksgiving but most defo not cancelled. Enjoy and have fun God bless. Fmf #4
Thanks Loretta. Do you have an equivalent of Thanksgiving?
Our Son and family are coming here! First time in many years will find them at our doorstep coming Thanksgiving morning. Yay.
Mom/Grandma and Dad/Grandpa are grilling with sides and “Ga’s Favorite Double Fudge Brownies” and ice cream for dessert. It’s going to be soooo much fun!
The only thing this Thanksgiving that was/is being cancel is my sin debt. Glory!
Thankful for Thanksgiving. Everyone enjoy your families!!!
He cancels that debt once and for all. Have a blessed celebration of Gratitude and Salvation!!!
Much to be thankful for. Family, friends, health, happiness, new babies, knowing our God has us covered in his love n loving arms. Gobble gobble
Amen!
Sounds extremely selfish.
