Is it Friday already? Where we live, we have enjoyed 70-degree weather and sunshine all week long and now today is is rainy, cold, and snizzly (snow drizzle) – I am so ready for the weather to finally BREAK and be spring every single day! A bright spot of this gloomy day is gathering with a lot of bloggers over at Kate’s place to see what we can do with the one-word prompt, which is…
As in “Give me a break?” Hmm. Not sure where this is headed but let’s set the timer and go…
I’ve been thinking about idols a lot lately – no, not the kind made of wood or brass as in the Bible but the ones that are so darn attractive and time absorbing. Those things that steal us away from the better things. God was pretty hard on idols – He did a lot of BREAKing and burning of them in the Old Testament. Our wonderful, patient God is kind of funny like that – He gets rather jealous when we find things that begin to replace Him. For example, my Kindle.
Crazy isn’t it? Something so benign but you know what? It began taking the place of my time spent with Him. I’d crawl out of bed, unplug it from the charger and head to the coffee pot. I never intended to let checking my email turn into a 60-minute thief. I had to break that bad habit.
And, then, that preacher I heard down at my daughter’s church, The Cove. He said two simple words, “WORD FIRST.” In his home, he and his wife and their homeschooled kids follow this one simple rule: WORD FIRST! No electronic devices, no magazines, no newspaper until they read The Word First.
Yes! Lord! I was ready to break my habit – thank You for Your kindness and patience. I was definitely “all in.”
<stop> the clock!
Have any habits you need to break? Sometimes what is good needs to be laid down for the better! If you share then there can be prayer!
