Kate said, “Balance.”
I have long loved the word, “Balance.” I love the concept of balance. I believe it is the building block of peace and, perhaps even success. One cannot be too heavy in one thing and too scarce in another. One needs to be balanced.
How does a believer exercise balance in her or his daily life? I like Micah 6.7-8 – I believe this is God’s idea of the balance we should walk in day to day. The scripture reads:
Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams, with ten thousands of rivers of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?” He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?
People with addictive personalities don’t exercise balance – they go all out and don’t know when to stop. I like chips but I have to know when to quit eating them – you might like chocolate, and need to know when enough is enough. Balance.
And, balance with discernment = Spirit-led living. We don’t want to be doormats or bleeding hearts. We want to be salt and light in a very unsavory, dark world.
Balance, let’s learn to exercise it.
