Millions went outside and millions watched online – there is no question the Solar Eclipse on August 21, 2017 was a popular event! I was home alone, with Sam our dog, and I had my homemade box viewer and an app on the iPad to make viewing safe and enjoyable. About 10 a.m. the house began getting a little dim – our kitchen is always bright with morning light but it was noticeably diminished. My co-worker in Reno, Nevada, kept me abreast of his view. The one thought I had was this: In relative terms our world is small and the mere fact that what was coming from the west was a tract easily followed by Facebook posts, NASA livefeed, Instagram postings, etc.
Our area in northwestern North Carolina was scheduled to “peak” at 2:38 p.m. I took a late lunch hour in order to witness this historical event. It was worth it. We were too far north to get totally dark but I definitely experienced a solar eclipse. Journaled and in the history book of my life.
There’s a lot of talk that the solar eclipse is going to usher in the end of the world – is that true? Is it biblical?
That was a text I received Sonday night from a young friend living on the west coast. We had a wonderful conversation back and forth over messaging and it all ended with a surety of salvation and being ready IF the end were to come during Monday’s eclipse. We even promised one another IF the end came, we’d see each other “on the other side!”
I have lived my entire life with the knowledge that the Lord Jesus Christ would return in the clouds and take His church to glory – in my family we have always referred to that event as The Rapture. My grandma Emily hoped it would be in her lifetime. My mom hoped it would be in her lifetime. Well, the two of them experienced their own rapture when their days were numbered and they passed from this life to the next!
I wonder IF I will see The Rapture in my lifetime – I could get all doctrinal here and share my end times beliefs with you but I’m not going to – suffice it to say, every single person reading this will experience a rapture – whether a personal passing-away or a big Rapture of the Church.
And just as each person is destined to die once and after that comes judgment, so also Christ was offered once for all time as a sacrifice to take away the sins of many people. He will come again, not to deal with our sins, but to bring salvation to all who are eagerly waiting for him. Hebrews 9.27-28 (NLT)
The real question is, are we ready for that day? Just like my young friend on the west coast, I pray you know the Lord Jesus Christ, the beloved Son of our Living God. It isn’t enough “to know” Him – have we confessed our sins? Have we turned from (repented of) those sins and do we walk in newness of life? Have old things (habits, sins, unnatural tendencies) passed away and have all things become new IN HIM?
Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life. So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God. Romans 6.13
This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! 2 Corinthians 5.17
Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him. Colossians 3.10
I’m always available to chat or text – there’s a contact form that comes directly to me. DON’T HESITATE to reach out!
This world today has so many SUNDRY things going on – we could fill pages and pages of blogs with tragedy, poverty, and need. All one has to do is turn on a TV, scroll social media to find out stories that raise the hair on the backs of our necks and bring tears to our eyes. Two major world catastrophes have been brought to my attention in recent days. The flooding in Nepal and mud slides in Sierra Leone (Africa). I am sharing the links to these in case any of you have a desire or conviction to donate to these precious people. EVERY dollar makes a difference.
I have never been one to “beg” but I know these ministries and the people who administer them and funds don’t go to pay electric bills in big fancy corporate offices – the dollars go directly where they are desperately needed. Thank you for considering a donation!
Now, if you are feeling really adventurous and brave I’m sharing a link to an awesome article, one that is well-researched and is about the prophetic implications of eclipses, galactic events, and the return of Christ! Enjoy the read, I know I did! You can link here.
Thanks for the chat and if you stayed until the end, I salute you!
