It was one of those perfect summer days – I had taken the day off from work to spend with granddaughter and grandson. We had a plan and we stuck to it! First, bowling. Had a coupon and one game, with shoe rental, only cost five dollars! We were off to a good start. Then lunch – not so good – but has nothing to do with this story! Movie matinee came next – Brave! Loved it, albeit the magic, we did work in some learning moments! Finally, a long drive home up over the mountain in the cool rainy drizzle.
As soon as we got home, grandson, was outside in rain gear with weapons in hand (too long of a day sitting down for a 9-year old all-boy, boy!) AND, our country dirt road had several mud puddles to pounce in and conquer.
Granddaughter and I settled in the kitchen / dining room – she at the table scrapbooking and me at the kitchen island cooking. It was the perfect night for either grilled cheese and tomato soup or homemade mac & cheese. We opted for the latter! As we always do, she and I engaged in interesting, life-lesson conversation. When spending time with an almost 16-year old lovely, one must take every opportunity for a life lesson! Today’s lesson was important: marry a man who will dance with you in the kitchen! Trust me, we’ve had deeper convo’s with far greater meaning!!!
From her iPhone came songs of the past: Tony Bennett, Nat King Cole, Johnny Mathis, you get the picture. I was singing, she was laughing, grandson in and out of laundry room dripping mud and dropping swords – it was the perfect time!
Then Grampa came home – he walked into the kitchen, I gave him the “eye” and he scooped me in his arms and we began to dance to Johnny Mathis’ Twelfth of Never. Granddaughter smiled. I cozied up to Grampa’s ear and whispered, “Ask her to dance.” We made our way to the table, he bowed and said, “May I have this dance?” Granddaughter: “I don’t know how to slow dance.”
“Well, you see you put this arm here, and that arm there, and………”
It was a memorable waltz – not soon forgotten.
Why walk when you can dance!
The Lord has done great things for us! We are glad! Psalm 126.3
