Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed,
Because His compassions fail not.
They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness.
“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
“Therefore I hope in Him!” Lamentations 3.22-24
I am such a morning person – love, love, love the morning time. Get up and immediately head to the kitchen. Turn the coffee on. Go to the bathroom. Back to kitchen. Drink 8 ounces of water. Get out my supplements. Get the cream out of ‘frig. Fold a paper towel just so. Get a clean teaspoon to lay on the paper towel. Get my mug. Get my hubs’ mug and his fill-your-own k-cup thingy. Everything is laid out nice and neat. Fill my white (has to be white for coffee) mug with steaming hot jo/e (great Scrabble word), enough cream to make it the exact shade I prefer and head to my chair.
Mornings. They are the highlight of my day!
I believe Jesus and I have this morning thing in common – He liked mornings as well. He woke early to get alone with His Dad. He woke early to fry fish for His best friends. Yes, Jesus liked mornings. I think I’ve unlocked the secret to mornings…
I’m sure you’re ahead of me on this one! The scripture gave me away.
God’s mercies are new every morning.
Jesus knew it and relied on it. After all, He was all man (and all God) before Calvary and the Resurrection. So far in this life journey of mine I have never met a human being who did not need new mercy every single day. Jesus depended on this new God-mercy each morning to get through His day, how much more do I need it?
Do I believe?
IF His mercies are truly new every morning, and they are, then why are we so hard on ourselves? We get up in the morning and instead of approaching the new day with a clean slate and fresh perspective, which HIS NEW MERCIES give us, we drag all of yesterday’s crap and disappointment and regret with us. Why do we do that?
Tomorrow morning I am going to be intentional. I am going to wake up like the brand new creation in Christ that I am, with my renewed and transformed mind. Boldly I am going to His throne of grace and I am going to say to The One who gives new mercies every morning…
Yes, I believe.
