Confront The Giant
I try very hard not to write random blogposts. I like to wait for Holy Spirit to deliver the message or the title or something HE wants me to write. So, this week I was listening to Joyce Meyer on a quick IGTV video and she said something like, “David didn’t stand back and let the giant (Goliath) come to him – David ran toward the giant and hurled the stone.”
So it was, when the Philistine arose and came and drew near to meet David, that David hurried and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine. 1 Samuel 17.48
It is important to know that David was young at this time BUT that’s not the point of the story. The point of the story is David knew His God and knew God was with him in the battle. David was a sheep herder. A shepherd. It was his job to protect his family’s flock. And, he did it well. He had killed a lion and a bear with his slingshot – he knew he had good aim and he knew he could fire the sling dead-on. And, most of all, he knew God was with him.
Identify The Giant
I wrote a post a few years back, Facing Your Goliath, you can read that here. Back then, I had to identify those giants in my life that were keeping me from moving forward. Once I did that I was free to move on.
David knew who the giant was. Goliath, and his four brothers (2 Samuel 21.22). David grabbed FIVE smooth stones – just in case the brothers came after him – he’d have the ammunition to take them out also. David knew the loyalty or disloyalty of brothers and he went into the battle prepared. He knew his enemy.
How do we apply this?
We must identify our enemy. (Insecurity. Jealousy. Greed. Sexual sin. Promiscuity. Dishonesty. Etcetera)
We must arm ourselves with the weapons of warfare. (Ephesians 6)
We must run and face the giant in our life – not wait for them/it to come to us.
We must know well The One (Jesus Christ) who goes with us and fights for us. Don’t fight the battle without getting HIM involved.
The Victory Is Ours
I believe that WITH Christ we can be victors in these hard battles. He fights for us but we must be actively engaged in the battle, with The Word and prayer and fasting. Keep your armor on – keep your belt secure and tight. Be prepared and count the cost.
And, let’s never stop fighting for our babies. LIFE! Be vocal. Pray. Vote for life. Give.
Victory! Yes!
We are promised the victory!
Great post! Face the giant in our life head on! Know that God is by your side every step of the way.
I’ve had to face a few in my lifetime, amen?
Nailed it, again. Truth.
Thanks!
“David knew His God and knew God was with him in the battle. ” Susan, I think you shared the key right there – we must know our God.
Jo’ it is absolutely KEY!
Hi Susan.
I’ve been thinking about conquering giants a lot this year and I love that you remind us we have victory in Him. Giants seem overwhelming until they are in our Lord’s shadow.
Loved your post!
Peace and grace,
Tammy
Tammy, “They are in our Lord’s shadow.” PERFECT – I wish I had said that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Such an empowering post! Thanks, Susan.
Amen, Susan! I’m so thankful that, when we face giants, we have the Lord of Hosts going before us!
