I know my friend Kitty will love this image – she has a thing about clotheslines!
Today, I want us to picture ourselves hanging out this window doing a very mundane thing like hanging out our clothes to air dry. Perhaps one of us is down on the sidewalk and we’re discussing life, our kids, our grands, our jobs, our spouses, recipes and wondering what on earth am I going to fix for supper.
I’m writing this on election day morning. Yes, I was at the polls at 7:05 a.m. Yes, I cast my vote. Yes, I prayed. I even stood in front of the four ladies sitting at the eight foot stretch of table and lifted my hands and quietly prayed,
Father God, You know all things. You are the Lord of this day. You will be the Lord of tomorrow also. Be present here, O Lord. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
Two of the ladies know me – know my heart. They whispered quiet…amen. I put my red, white, and blue oval sticker on my Pray sweatshirt and came home. I sat down in “my” chair and read Matthew 26. As I do every morning I spun around in my chair, looked out the window, and began prayer-talking. THAT’s when He got bossy with me – Today, I want you to fast all social media. I don’t want you within hearing of the television. Focus on Me. Write a blog. Work. Pray. Don’t fret. Don’t be anxious. Be still.
I think today, besides work, I’m going to read more of Ann’s book, The Broken Way. She wrote One Thousand Gifts a few years back – first time I had ever heard of Ann Voskamp was by way of counting gifts. Count, I did. From January 2nd, 2011 until January 2nd, 2012. I counted and wrote down 1,010 gifts. I just dug out that journal (photo) and began flipping pages. Lots of entries about my mom – taking her to the hairdresser or grocery shopping. Wearing a sweater in July because it was cold! My son-in-love, Tom, came and tiled our bathroom floor in October of that year, it was grateful #700! I still love our tile floor too. Grateful #751, our drive to Atlanta to meet hubs’ cousins for the first time (Cousin Barry, I hope you’re reading!!! It was 2011.) #875 We repainted our bedroom the palest of blue, which is still on the walls and I still love it! #968 I had a friend play secret Santa to a special person! #1010 New Year’s weekend – we went to see WAR LORD (heavy movie!)
Isn’t it fun to look back?
Ann’s new book, The Broken Way, IS GOOD. I think we see more of Ann in this book. I highly recommend it. Are you reading anything good? Do tell in the comments please.
I’m getting excited about Thanksgiving – truly is my favorite holiday – I wrote a little about it here. My daughter and husband host our holidays and the Thanksgiving feast is their “magnum opus” – they put on quite a spread. Hannah will be home from college and although, we have empty spaces and missing faces at our table it doesn’t discount any of God’s awesome graciousness to our family. We are blessed and I am grateful.
Next week? I get my first Social Security check! How awesome is that? I’m rather excited about it! Maybe I’ll go shopping. HA!
Now, it’s time to think about dinner – my daughter just told me she’s going to make stuffed shells – now, how good does that sound? Yum!
I think the clothes are dry – thanks for the chat. I really needed this today, thanks for coming by!
P.S. I have a new book ready for YOU…make a great daily read come January!
