The Second Half written by author, Lauraine Snelling, is a very good read that addresses problems that can “land on the doorstep” of modern families today even when they are Christians.
Mona, the main female character, has suffered from periodic, severe clinical depression her entire life. Her husband, Ken, doesn’t understand this disorder at all and it is an underlying problem in their marriage.
Their son, who is in the Army Special Forces, is deployed overseas (he’s a single dad to two) and he asks his parents to become the guardian of the children during his absence. It is during this time of his deployment that God uses some unfortunate circumstances to bring to Ken a fairly deep understanding of his wife’s depression.
It’s a story that kept me turning the pages and reading on and I was very thankful that the ending was a happy one.
