My friend, Kathy W, in Indiana loves to read good, clean fiction so when I found myself with a stack of books to review a few weeks ago – I did what any good friend would do! Sent her two of them and asked her to read, assess, and write a review! Kathy is articulate and excellent when asked to do something – she read the books in no time flat. Remember, this is a historical novel, fiction-based, so the review is short in order to not spoil the reading experience!
Messenger by Moonlight by author, Stephanie Grace Whitson, combines history, a good story line, and wonderful spiritual lessons all into a “read” that is easy and yet compelling.
Annie Paxton and her two brothers are orphaned and when the brothers are offered the best job they could hope for (with the Pony Express) they uproot themselves from all they know and set out on the adventure of a lifetime.
I learned a lot about the Pony Express while reading this book and I also appreciated how the story let us know that God was working and moving and directing each step of the way for the three main characters. Some of the people they came in contact with were very interesting characters. I particularly liked George who seemed so uncouth and turned out to be quite the opposite.
A great read for a summer afternoon.
