Job 38
It’s Tuesday after a 3-day weekend and I’m going to keep this short. But, instead of short and sweet – it will be short and profound! In the Old Testament book of Job – God speaks. He speaks loud and clear…directly to Job. Directly to me. Directly to you.
Here’s your assignment…read Job 38.
Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said… (now go read the entire chapter).
Whew, right?
I mean God gives Job what for!
“Who is this who darkens counsel
By words without knowledge?
3 Now prepare yourself like a man;
I will question you, and you shall answer Me.4 “Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth?
Tell Me, if you have understanding.
5 Who determined its measurements?
Surely you know!
Or who stretched the line upon it?
6 To what were its foundations fastened?
Or who laid its cornerstone,
7 When the morning stars sang together,
And all the sons of God shouted for joy?
If
God ever came to me and said these things, I’d be wasted. By the time He said, “When the morning stars sang together…” I would be prostrate on the floor.
This is included in the Word of God to remind us, His kids, of His omnipotence, His majesty, His greatness, and His Almighty power.
Translated:
Until you know a little more about running the physical universe, Job, don’t tell Me how to run the moral universe. -God
Another if
If you’re up to it, read Job 39 and in chapter 40, Job answered the LORD! And, God continues the chapter with a challenge to Job.
Can you draw out Leviathan with a hook…?
My Take-aways
By the time God is finished with Job, he is completely humbled. I am completely humbled. Job’s pride is crushed and demolished – as should ours be.
O! Father God, in Jesus’ Name I want to be repentant and restored as Job was. I want to see You (Job 42.5)…
Let these chapters encourage you today – there is nothing too hard for our God.
And of course, as Holy Spirit does sometimes with us, I was reading the same thing yesterday. Incredible that some of us still have our doubts that God can take of all of it and that nothing surprises us. I mean after all, HE walked on the bottom of the sea! No super hero contrived in a human mind can do that!
I am so glad I get to sit with you Father, you Lord Jesus, and you Holy Spirit.
I love just sitting with my Three Best Friends. Not saying a word, just sitting in Shalom.
Good one!
Thanks Tam – go drink some lemon balm tea!
I was given a study book on Job not long after my diagnosis. It was a good reminder that God is in control of everything.
Too bad we always have to be reminded of who is in control, eh?
A take-away I’ve always had from JOB? “Why not me, Lord?”
